Final Fantasy
Are the pixel remasters good? Anything wrong with them?

they're utilitarian remasters, they're quite good in that regard

I didn't like some of the sprite changes in FF5/6, but the only real complaint I had with them is the font being small in general (it has an option for a 'retro' pixelated font, but it's still small), and that there's scrolling judder across all six games because the devs couldn't into aligning movement speed per pixel vs. the resolution + framerate, when there are ample ways to cheat that when you're presenting a low-resolution game at 1080p output.

Less content than the gba/psp releases. Only FFIII is the definitive 2D version.
Anonymous No.713513404 [Report]
They're pretty boring. There are better romhacks, right? Maybe FF5 and FF3 are good because they were Japanese only back when only like 1 out of 10 Japanese games got translated

Nitpickggers will go on about
>muh translation
but if you're just looking for fun classic ff gameplay, I've enjoyed it very much, and as of late strongly thought about playing 3, 5 and 6 again. 1 and 4 are great too, and 2 is fun because the level system is just so left field by comparison, but I'm a sucker for job/class combat like in 3 and 5, and the scale 6 was just insane for the time when compared to the previous ones
Although this isn't a flaw, I do wish they would've added ng+. I just love going through older games that let you fuck everyone's shit up
Anonymous No.713513780 [Report]
Problem I had was most of them are easier than their originals still. I was expecting FF1 to be authentic w/ perhaps a bug fix or two, but it's based off of the PS1 version of the game, which changed the difficulty slope, level system, starting items, etc. Least it kept the old magic system? GBA versions were completely broken when they adapted it to the MP system.

They have some nitpicky issues but they're fine versions of the games if you can get them at a decent price. The PR version of III is the best one available, and the same is probably true for II

I had some minor glitches with FF5 while grinding AP at max speed up. The biggest problem is that none of them have their bonus content from the GBA versions.

They are ugly. Just pirate the original versions or the GBA versions if you want extra content. The DS version of 3 is also easy to pirate.

I only ever touched some of whatever FF Legend 1 on GB was supposed to be, and that Vita version of Romancing Saga 2. Never got far in RS2 though, the progression wasn't described very well and I kept losing party members permanently, leading to a lot of reloading a save after a bad dungeon run.

They look genuinely horrible and the QoL changes like diagonal walking makes it feel like you're playing a shitty rom hack or RPG Maker clone.
Not to mention the homogenization of the presentation just plain robs each game of the awe that is the technical leap from each game to the other.

Not to mention the way FF1 didn't even have any cutscenes, FF2 actually had characters moving around in a scripted sequence, FF3 adding custom cutscene animations, so on and so forth.
You miss out by just playing a version of the games where they all look and sound the same.

Missing all the content from the gba /psp remakes which are things like extra dungeons, super bosses, new jobs, etc.
The only one worth playing is 3 because its an somewhat different experience to ds 3. That being said its still better to just play 3 ds remake over 3 pixel remaster if its your first time experiencing it

I disagree about the 3DS remakes. They're substantially different games in terms of gameplay. I prefer the 2D versions a lot, and 3PR is the best way to experience it.

they essentially exist as a means to preserve the base versions of each final fantasy game for future generations to purchase and buy without all of the fancy additions you'd get in other versions on psp, they're fine and some of the updated visual effects and music are titillating, but ultimately if you are already a fan there isn't much here for you
