on epic all free games are paid by timmy

>Shitty indie game
10/10 indie game.

Devs have literally never made a bad game, shame about the mobile tier art direction they love so much though.

Dig 2 leans more towards metroidvania, more advanced abilities and hurdles to match. Greater in scope too, the first one is like 3-4 hours long. Dungeons and small challenge/puzzle caves with upgrades peppered throughout the crust. Good stuff.

Builder was outsourced and sucked as I recall, but what happened to Heist 2 that made it fail? The game was actually good and steamworld is popular enough on it's own to avoid failing from lack of attention.

Heist 2 is just heist 1 but with annoying garbage added on it. You have to traverse the overworld with a slow ass boat and waste your time upgrading it then it has a dumbass gear daily system where you can do only X levels per ingame day and only use a character 1 time (i guess this is to force you to level everyone) then you have to go back to the checkpoint and rest your party. Overall you're going to waste a lot of time which is probably to bloat the playtime to justify it having double the pricetag of Heist 1. The skill tree is cute but you're mostly just tacking the cheap level 1-2 skills on everyone and leave it at that since grinding to high levels is extremely annoying and time consuming for the reasons above.
The game itself isn't particularly -bad- perse, but I'm guessing it flopped not because of low sales but because the game clearly had a much higher budget of its predecessor.

It probably just hit that "we need to pump up the wishlist numbers" phase of the sale. Even good games get gutted price-wise when they're older or the devs want visibility for the next project. Dig 2 was solid, miles better than the first. Think it's more of a "let's get this into everyone's library before we drop Heist 3 or whatever weird spinoff they're cooking" move than a result of flopping.

If memory serves right, wasn't Dig 2 free on Steam at one point? It was also released early within the Switch's first year, so I imagine it would've done decently for a third party.
