The story of how the first game was written is actually really humorous. Kojima wrote the initial script, then Konami sent it over to one of the English localizers, and this dude basically rewrote the entire thing. From that point forward Kojima kept tight controls on the script, but the next 2 games were cowritten by Tomokazu Fukushima. IDK exactly what his role was but my guess is he significantly toned down Kojimas autism. He left Konami during the production of MGS4, maybe the autism finally got too much for him.

I don't think MGS1 or 3 are particularly super interesting, but I think their strength is in having some level of restraint and just being enjoyable stories. Kojima gets in the way of himself in all other games he's done. I'll absolutely agree that Death Stranding is a more interesting story and game than MGS3 is, no doubt but it is also way clumsier. I can't speak to DS2 since I haven't played it but the first 2 hours certainly seems like a big improvement on his past few games, way more succinct and to the point, effective cutscenes that don't waste your time too much.

Can't agree there even a little. I think it's a complete dumpsterfire and easily his worst game. MGS4 is way more of an interesting dumpsterfire than TPP was, and DS is much better than both.
