Just beat Mario Sunshine for the first time. A solid 10/10 in environment, atmosphere and music, but holy shit did the gameplay really made me wanna bite my own dick off sometimes. I've heard tons of people bitching about FLUDD over the years, but I almost always had fun with it.
My problems always came from Mario's movement being inconsistent as hell. I dunno if I'm just super shit or if this is just the famous 'Sunshine jank', but wall-jumping between two perfectly straight surfaces should not result in you jumping out towards the camera because your first jump was angled slightly to the right.
It feels like they tried to make the movement too versatile, and ended up raising the skill floor way higher than a casual playthrough should demand.

garbage like this is why noone respects 3d platformers. be it this, cavern of dreams etc., they're always PROUDLY uninspired rip off games. who the fuck wants to play the exact same game again except soulless? the only indie 3d platformers I respect are Pseudoregalia and Big Catch because they have their own ideas about platforming movement instead of just trying to be "le more content" for something that's already been perfected

It's not even done well, either. Feels like they copied the top layer of Mario 64 without understanding the deeper mechanics underneath. Movement has no weight, momentum is off, and half the time it feels like you're ice skating uphill. If you're gonna rip something off wholesale, the least you could do is get it tight.

I like Mario 3D World ripoff slop (Sackboy's Big Adventure, Smurfs Dreams, etc.) and Meat Boy 3D is the first one I've seen that looks actually challenging. That's why I am somewhat hyped for it.

I'll play them rarely, if they're special.
I enjoyed Mika and the witch's mountain last year. you fly rather than have other abilities and the physics are pretty fun, there's speed tech and possible skips and the writing is pretty cute and cartoony.

Koa and the Pirates of Mara is comfy as hell

also having to backtrack to the first area every 5 minutes was super annoying.
it stuttered a lot because it's u-u-unity slop, but you can fix that by using dxvk-gplasync.
It has some fun parts. But overall I'd say it was just okay. Kinda forgettable honestly

The demo was fun but I wish there was a game like this with handmade rather than proc-gen levels.

Exo One is the closest thing I've seen but it's more of an atmospheric exploration game.

any 3d platformers that focus on atmosphere and levels instead of collectathons and movement tech autism? something like Rayman 2, nothing ever scratched the same itch (Cavern of Dreams was ok)

Idk if BroDute is responsible but I hate those sm64 mods where they allow turning in the air. Throws me off everytime. I do a jump and want to slow down by holding down but instead I do a fucking U-turn. I see Sonic games doing the same thing and it makes me sad. Platformers shouldn't let you drastically change direction mid-air

I'm just now playing Astro Bot in anticipation of Donkey Kong Bananza. Honestly both games are peak.

I finished the first Yooka Laylee and I found it absolutely lovely.
It has all the flaws and defects of the original Banjo Kazooie, I've never felt so at home.

I'm currently playing Tamarin and I think it's a rather mediocre experience, but I'm curious to push forward and see all the weapons

Toree Saturn is in the works.
One of my favorite 3D platformers that I would recommend is Super Kiwi 64.

What are some 3d platformers that are NOT collecthons. It seems most indie platformers take after Banjo/Kazzoi and nit Mario 64. Mario 64 is actually about platforming, not just collecting stuff.
