People complaining about "gacha" in XB2 are fucking retarded. The reason why gacha is frowned upon is because it leads to scummy design philosophies that try to trick players into exchanging real life currency for progress within the game.

XB2 obviously doesn't do this, and the only thing about it's systems resembling gacha is the menu where you open core crystals, i.e. a purely cosmetic resemblance. The ccs themselves are just like any other random loot drop in rpgs. In XB1 enemies drop chests which contain random loot. In XB2 enemies drop "core crystals" which contain random characters. You'd have to be fucking retarded and gay to take issue with this.

My problem with the gacha system isn’t really a problem with the principle of it; I’m a Monster Hunter fan, I have no right to complain about randomized loot.

My problem with the gacha system was how it intersects with the field skills. Needing to have specific skills that wou can only get from randomized blades can be very frustrating, especially in certain side quests where the success thresholds are way higher. Removing the “only blades in your party can use field skills” requirement would have gone a long way towards alleviating the problem.

I like the idea of the blade system being a way of randomizing repeat playthroughs and encouraging experimentation, but all of the systems surrounding it can make it a frustrating ordeal (such as affinity trees needing you to select them in order to obtain skills and levels, rather than just updating in the background).

Complaining about the gacha in XB2 is valid for a multitude of reasons, none of which have to do with spending money.

You can slightly influence what you get, and I'm sure there's a specific enemy in late game you can grind for super primogems or whatever, but you are ultimately still at the mercy of the slot machine. I would like to see what a native Switch 2 Xenoblade looks like. The Switch was more powerful than the Wii U, but it's not like it was by a lot. It was more impressive that they did it as a handheld. Similarly, the Wii U was a bit more powerful than a PS3 and Xbox 360, though it had a worse CPU bottleneck. The original Switch is roughly like a high-end console that was released late 2007 or mid-2008. But Xenoblade has been on souped-up Xbox 360 hardware (an "Xbox 360 X" if you will) for X, 2, and 3, so I imagine the next game will look like a generational leap.

And you'll very easily get over half the pre-clear gacha Blades without much trouble.

Optimal healing in 2 is actually crit healing where you heal a certain percentage of crit damage dealt. You can turn Rex (via Mythra) into a regenerating Beyblade and DLC Fiora is absurd damage for absurd heals.

3 Rex is the natural conclusion of him. He takes on elements of Vandham, Zeke, Addam, and Malos. He had said in chapter 5 that while he was eternally grateful to his parents for saving his life, he couldn't remember them and didn't feel the sadness over their loss that a child might feel for their parents. Instead, he had the Leftherians, the people of Fonsett Village, who raised him as one of their own. Despite the fact he doesn't resemble them and isn't related to them (apart from distant Addam blood), he sees them as his family. Family is the people you love and surround yourself with. That's why the idea of Blades seemingly being unable to have children in 2 isn't a big deal. It doesn't matter if he can't have biological children with Pyra or Mythra because that was never an obstacle to him to begin with. When Rex says "I love you and all you guys!", he means it. He's incredibly broad-hearted. He is straight up a Jesus figure of 2, complete with betrayal, resurrection, apostles, and being a savior figure. Nia had romantic feelings for him, he wouldn't have turned her down.

The reason why I tied more "general" gameplay complaints (I actually think 2 is the better game than 3, but it definitely hides that fact as much as humanly possible. I've never seen an RPG that tries to be more obtuse and I've been through Unlimited SaGa) with the gacha system complaints comes from how even the OP states there's intertwining reasons. The gacha exists to provide unique playthroughs and experiences in a genre that can be pretty linear despite its claims. Beating a dungeon and/or finding a chest filled with core crystals is supposed to simulate the feelings as getting random loot in something like Diablo or Borderlands. The combat system only expands as much time and resources you put into the gacha, there are several classes of weapons that aren't replicated if you stick with story-only blades. And the story and worldbuilding is intrinsically to learning to be the Master Driver, learning how each blade and their relationships work, no matter where they come from or how you get them.

The gacha itself though is really...bad to play with. It's not simple, it's not fast, it's not clear, and using it wrong is detrimental to your experience or character (seriously, WHY Overdrive Protocols???). The game doesn't even tell you about the pity rate.

A lot about playing X2 is warped by the gacha. You can't just get good loot or a new blade most of the time, it will be core crystals. You going to be farming Legendary Core Crystals for Rare Blades for an indeterminate amount of time. You gonna be using the proc-gen'd generics that look bad most of the time and make their powers that tend to be BETTER than the Rare Blades you get in most of the points of the game unclear and hidden. How much fun Xenoblade 2 is is going to be highly variable depending on how much time you put into and how much you understand the gacha. And these do not rise at comparable rates.

So, what was the point of him besides being saved only for monado memes?

I dislike the system because it doesn't work in a single player rpg. Big part of the fun in a rpg is making builds. Blades are a big part of your build, but it is just random what you get. And you're mega restricted in moving blades, so getting a dps Blade on Nia just is a bad feeling. Or your dps gets shafted by healing blades. If you had enough currency to move the blades you could experiment, but they also restricted this. Plus Rex can just use every blade later on, so a first playthrough where you put blades on him just feels like you got cheated.

Why did Xenoblade 3 not have any legs compared to 2? People still rave and talk about 2 to this day. Is it really as simple as the characters arent not enough? But it's not like Mio, Eunie, Sena and the other female playables aren't attractive in their own right.

In fairness, the way healing works in Xeno2, DPS and healing are tied together. Healing blades on DPS is actually pretty good. Even if you separate in using Healing-only skills, more DPS means you charge the attack cooldown faster, as well as the timer for switching blades. So this case isn't as bad as you think. At most, it means you can't control aggro on the driver as well.

The actual build issues BEYOND STUPID OVERDRIVE PROTOCOLS comes from the weapon type and how different drivers have different swing speeds and proficiencies with them. That's actually cutting into your DPS. Ontop of the different skill sets, heavy blades are worse on characters like Nia, or can't be cancelled with stagger stepping or into different arts as well. That's what fucking you over as hard.

Again, the obtuseness of the game is its biggest detriment and why the gacha takes so much flak because of it. Getting a bunch of the wrong weapons on the wrong driver wouldn't be as bad if the game unified attack speeds or made it clear how characters are supposed to be built in the first place. The game treats itself as open and accommodating to any build for anyone when that's just not true. And the player will find out about that the hard way.

I believe that 3 has an awkward problem, beyond any of its own, where there's...not too much to talk about because of its earlier games. If you value 3 for being a "respectable RPG that isn't cringe and gay", 1 is right there. If you value 3 for its oddities and quirks and uniqueness as an RPG, 2 is right there. 3 is so much of a halfpoint between 1 and 2, you don't really get much out of it beyond the absurdity of seeing 7 guys beat up a big boy and having the Switch 1 heat up like a radiator.

It doesn't help that 3's midpoint is...mid. It frontloads all of its most interesting aspects, and for the next good chunk of the game, there's really not much happening until Mio's "death". 1 kind of have the same problem but it tries to have more twists and going-ons, while it just sticks with the N and M reveal for the most part. It gets so caught up on trying to make you like the characters and world, the actual RPG exploration and storytelling suffers. So again, not a lot to discuss about.

My only issue with Xenoblade 2 is that it doesn't tell you which quests lead to new Blades. There's this set of Ice and Water "twins" who have to be unlocked with a specific quest that start in the first Titan and lead you to Mor Ardain. The thieves related questline. And the one that broke me hard was 200 hours in I finally got the "dragon" Blade which was very easy in the frost turtle Titan, literally right in the town and you get a skill check. The game doesn't tell you a rare fucking unique Blade is there, I was like "WTF why didn't this have a sign post saying RARE BLADE HERE".

While the "two worlds colliding" thing sounds great on paper, in practice it just leads the game to have no real feeling of its own, and its world / regions are nowhere near as good as either 1 or 2. The N/M reveal is the only good and engaging part of the entire story and it is only at about the 60% mark. This talking point is ten years out of date. If it was ever even true. The randomness behind getting characters isn't even the problem with gacha, the design behind how often you're intended to get characters and how much benefit they're intended to give you is. Hoyoslop is a perfect example, you've got to roll anything like five times before you have it for real. The intent is to make you save up rolls until you can blow it all on guaranteeing the one you REALLY want. The fact that you COULD get it earlier by luck is a way to disguise the investment it will take, and the game is almost certainly designed easy enough to account for you having utterly shit luck if you just want to press on.

Honestly I had a preference for Morytha and looking around at the broken original world. But the World Tree is a very close second. My favorite being going to Mor Ardain and STILL BEING ABLE TO SEE INDOL AND THE TORNAN WARSHIP FIGHTING! I love the sense of scale in these games, especially on an underpowered system
