But the more i think, i start to realize that I think writers didnt really care about canvas denizens, they dont think destroying canvas is mass murder, they dont care about philosophical implications or ethics of life in canvas. So at the end of the day i think writers cared more about what these things represent (addiction, escapism) and to them the characters might as well be npcs in a video game.
Basically i think writers are hacks, if they werent then they would have written it that even morons like that wouldnt be saying that.
Even writer of SAO makes it clear in season 3, that lives of artificial souls have value comparable to a real life and it would be immoral to destroy it or take advantage of it.
