One of the best looking games of 2025 while running on a 5 year old PS5 equivalent of a 2070. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN DEVS OPTIMIZE.

>So is the bar so low now that just the game functioning like it's supposed to makes us automatically scream masterpiece?
Honestly yes.
And this' been a case the past 10 or so years soon.

It is a huge bonus that DS is actually a great, unique and fun game, that doesn't give a fuck about the Amerimutt goysoy culture + uses a proprietary engine + handcrafted models, custom made for great visuals and performance.

>>713537410

I have a 7900XTX that's my main gaming rig. 1440p with no upscaling looks like ass with TAA. I had to run FF7 Rebirth at 4K to minimize the smearing. DS2 is probably internally running at 1080p at best.

It will have ghosting and smearing lol. The game is built on temporal rendering just like all other modern games and DS1. Unless Kojima also invented a completely new form of rendering?
Also guaranteed DLSS/DLAA will look better than the game's standard rendering.

Can anyone tell me , if the "Log on" option in menu is greyed out does that mean I'm connected to the network? I feel like it told me I was disconnected last night and now I'm not sure. When I take screenshots with the PS5 function, not in game, it says failed to upload?

It's running at 1440p internally at worst, but I think there are other factors with TAA, like how many previous samples are used. So it's more of a FF7 issue than a generic TAA issue.

Kojimbo's team has always used forgotten arcane knowledge to optimise their games. MGSV on PS4 with all its interactivity ran at a steady 60fps no matter how much shit was going on in real time. Shit, they even managed to get it to run on the fucking PS3.

There is no difference in how TAA renders on monitors vs how it renders on TVs. If they're the same resolution, the only difference is that you're sitting a lot further away from your TV so you don't notice.

You should start seeing signs pretty early into the game. Like by the second mission when you have to cross into Mehico through Trump's never finished wall that the wetbacks never paid for. Structures? I think might be a while. First thing you should see is ladders or UPS drop off boxes by the third mission. I had to build a watch tower and timefall shelter before I saw any. I did see someone build a recharge station for my power bike towards the end of Mehico. That's like 5 or 6 missions in.

The difference between Starfield and Death Stranding is that Death Stranding makes the shit between A and B the content. So you have to contend with weight load, balancing mechanics, shoe wear, terrain, real time hazards (new ones are landslides), enemies trying to take your shit, keeping Lou happy when you fall or something that'd scare a child happens etc. In Starfield, there is no content between A and B, that's why it's fucking boring, there's not even micro-mechanics like managing oxygen levels.

>Shit, they even managed to get it to run on the fucking PS3.
It also ran on the Xbox 360, the weaker system of the two. It helps that the game was being MADE for the PS3 originally, and was developed by a group of passionate industry veterans, who knew what they were doing + were used to waaay more strict system limitations in the past. I especially adore Kojima Production's PS2 and PSP era low-poly and texture work.

Just goes to show that you do not need 10 million polygons + twelve 4K PBR texture sets per character + Gay tracing to make impressive, realistic visuals. I think Snake's model in V is only like 50k tris, and textures use smart atlasing of 256^2 to 1024^2 images. Lighting is achieved with Probes, which is super efficient by today's standards. It's outright bizarre that it has practically disappeared from modern game engines; I think some guy coded an addon for GODOT 4 just now, but Unreal 5 for example defaults to Lumen, and struggles even with pre-baking lightmaps!

>need 10 million polygons
You're mistaking need for a lack of skill.
3D game artists that work in UE5 don't know how to optimise their assets and use retopology.
Take your picture for example, that probably had at least 4 times the polygons when they first made the model. Then they went through retopology to cut off what is excess, what doesn't need to be there and then painted on the model to hide the seams.

Modern 3D artists in UE5 aren't doing that. They're using a sculpting mode and putting that straight into UE5 because the engine makes the users hardware retopologise.

Don't mistake inability as a conscious choice.

Limitations breed creativity.
It's why Kojima's games work. He needed to be creative and as tech progressed, his team refined their workflow to keep their lessons learnt.

Go to school for 3D art and you're ready to go into UE5 game development as an artist. Despite not knowing any game engine specifics because you don't need to.

New studios completely lose out on learning lessons in regards to game development, unless they decide to make their own engine.

They're not using so many triangles because they think that it looks better, they're using so many because they're incapable of using less. They're using sculpting tools that generate tens of thousands that don't need to exist but they're not a technical artist.
They're not qualified to work on any engine other than UE5 because UE5 is the only one that can take their unoptimised mess, and try to optimise it, at the users expense.

You are dead wrong, and clearly don't understand the (now very "oldschool") matter of box-modeling and pixel art.

No son, back in MY days (mid 00s and up), we modeled the game mesh as it would be in the game, after which it was UV Unwrapped by hand, and textured in Photoshop.
If you wanted to use Normalmaps and all that cool pixel shader shit, you either polysmoothed the base mesh in Mudbox or something, then sculpted the fine HQ details on it, or had someone make a totally separated 3D model in same style. The end result was still cage projected on top of the low-poly versions.

tl;dr: Old veterans more often than not crafted their game graphics directly into the quality they were planning to show.

t. 3DS Max user since version 7, started with Milkshape 3D way before that though. Nobody teaches this sort of workflow no more.

I normally disagree with people who say this but I feel like I wouldn't be enjoying this one as much if I hadn't slogged through the first one.

BUT it's not enough to where I'd say it ruins the game or anything. I'd watch the recap from "Suggestive Gaming" on youtube, just over an hour and covers everything without meandering and shit. He also responds to new comments and answers questions.

But yeah the first one I'd give like a 7/10 as a game, and bonus points on top of that for originality, graphics, etc. This one so far feels fuckin sick but too early to rate.

So just to make sure, there really are two ways of making low poly models (including texturing process)?
- Make high poly, UV unwrap, texture, then retopology tool to trim down polycount
- Make low poly, UV unwrap, texture -OR- add more poly for details, readjust UVs, then texture

>Milkshape 3D
Mah nigga
We had to use it for Medieval 2 Total War modding and all of my modelling experience comes from that. I'm no pro but I love how simple it was, especially adding vertices manually over a reference image then making the faces.
Now I know Blender can do this and other more efficient methods, but I miss the nights I've spent listening to music making dozens of low poly models in MS3D.

I get that kojima was trying to say something about social media with the Likes but he ended up putting social media FOMO into this game. Is that his intention?
I guess it's a me problem but in DS1 I'd see someones random rope with 10k likes and I would take the time to build a pretty useful bridge and literally never get a single like. On anything.

Trying to go into this game without caring about that, and I know it's pretty gay to care about in the first place but idk. Feels kinda bad?

Because those are two different things.
From what I've seen it runs like typical small-scale UE5slop, you're not going to be pulling off 1440p60 in it on a PS5-tier GPU, let alone 4k60.

Hell, some of those devs literally HAD their own engines already that they're dumping in favor of UE5 so they can outsource to India more since they no longer have the actual talent on-staff to work with their original engine.

Nothing runs at 4k60 on a top-end GPU unless it's a graphically unambitious game. The GTX1080Ti was released as a supposed 4k60fps GPU and it didn't actually run anything at 4k60fps unless it came out before the GPU or unless it was graphically unambitious.

Being ambitious doesn't mean shit if your game still looks bad, all the ambition in the world is pointless if it doesn't translate to a good-looking game to justify the poor performance.
Again, if your game doesn't run at 4k60 on a top end GPU, that's shit performance.

it's true, the issue is that developers see it being on the same architecture as PCs and see no point in developing on a restricted machine (because it would require actually capable developers). in this aspect consoles were vastly superior before intel took over and games were better made. this is why nvidia can sell gpus at 2k $, because no game company cares about optimization and just uses GPU crap like dlss, ray tracing etc. plus pre made engines that do the same thing.

No, it really fucking does. Go to TF29 and take some screenshots using max MSAA and 4K. You will easily see the jagged edges, even while in motion. Then compare it to just running TAA with the sharpening filter. It always yields the best looking results. I'm pissed off about it myself but the game was really built around it because consoles use it by default.

if i want to wander through highly detailed megascan and nanite enviroments i just can download any example map (and free) from epic... and it would even have better character controls with the standard ue5 mannequin especially if now use the lastest UE5 version which now includes several new templates.

A environment like in ops screenshot takes half an our to setup with quixel.

The only significant gameplay change I have seen so far, is the fkn Doll guy, who nags you nonstop like the fkn forspoken rings and dozen other "helpers" in other games...
Having some scripted fire/sandstorm doesnt do it for me.
And copy pasting shit like hologram distraction/inflatable whatever from old MGS games just reeks of memberberries and Kojimbo running out of ideas.
Fact of the matter is, they didnt even add a proper climbing mechanic, something that even MW2 has.
Its just "another one" like COD or Far Cry or Asscreed.
No inovation or anything daring, just MORE.
But I guess thats all people want these days.

What was the thread about?
Ah yes, muh graphics... great....

Exactly the same behaviour with Dead Stranding 1 threads during 2018/2019.

The objective of the game is to grind a movie.

Kojima does not care about engaging gameplay or exploring new possibilities. His mind is into creating a strong impression producing weird cutscenes just for the sake of being weird.

Quixel made high quality enviroments easy to make.

Unreal engine Metahumans is now the defacto standard of high quality main character visuals and its easy and fast to use.

Nanite despite all its hate made lod creation for high poly meshes easy bascially saving you months also it literally now works with moving foliage, landscape and characters (transparency issue but thats easy to solve) before nanite you basically had 3 options to make lods.. create them by hand which takes forever, let them be auto generate via unreal but it doesnt do a perfect job so peformance suffers or you use simplygon which is the best lod generation tool that basically the entire aaa industrie is using (until nanite) but most indies couldnt use because of license cost... (not gonna lie kinda love nanite eating simplygons lunch just because they bascially put a brickwall up to indies and only offered their tools aaa studios.)

and all that for free to use (yes even all quixel assets.. if you had a brain subed for free when it still was free)

People bitch about unreal engine and epic but they made creating stuff waaaaaaay more easier and waaaaay more time efficent and provide everything to you.

Give it to me straight...I don't know shit about this game other than it looks like a walking simulator. Will I like it if I liked MGS 1-3? Hated 4 and everything after that.

I will admit, it looks nice, but if the gameplay isn't there, I don't give a fuck. I don't want it to be a buncha on-rails fetch quests, making deliveries to a buncha nobodies. Also, is there any connection to the MGS universe???

>this scene has so many particles in it that it would bring any other game engine to a crawl.
The average open world game has more particles on screen when it's fucking raining or snowing. Kojimashills are so stupid.

if kojima didn't do it yet, then it didn't exist
if kojima does it, he did it first

Eh, crysis looks okay but not _that_ good, plus it crashes constantly making it near unplayable.

and have similar flaws as well shit tier pacing, shit tier movement that feels like you are wading through a swamp, input lag out the ass, no enemy variation or even combat worth engaging with, overanimated non responsive movement etc
Doesnt make a difference who creates this kinda thing... the price of slightly better visuals compared to actual games that are fun to play is quiet steep no matter which dev team decides on visuals over playability and gameplay

no.. just you.
walking sim with one character on screen in a empty map is something anyone can create on a weekend in unreal engine, as a game designer its your job not to do that and instead also care about gameplay
