This is tangential to this, but I'm playing through the Battle Network games right now, and I'm only on 2 so I haven't played much of them, but do people like the sections where you play Lan? I don't think there's anything wrong with an RPG having downtime and it would probably get a bit exhausting if the whole game were just the Mega Man sections, but I feel like all you do as Lan is just walk around talking to NPCs.

I just finished the Quick Man dungeon and while the part where you play as Mega Man was fun, the lead up to it where you're playing Lan is just being blocked by some arbitrary obstacle that you resolve by scouring the area for some item that lets you pass a few times in a row, and then you have to talk to a few NPCs who'll ask for some item that you get by talking to another NPC in the area and then going back to the one who made the request, and the first game had this same feeling where everything you do as Lan is just go around talking to NPCs. I feel like they had no idea what to do with his sections of the game mechanically, which wouldn't be so bad if you just played him in downtime, but they try to put in these puzzles and action segments with him that all just boil down to fetch quests.

Would it be kino if a corrupted Megaman was the final boss?
