Smaller target (whether that means higher dodge chance or literally smaller hitboxes) fit in tight quarters, usually the carry weight doesn't drop lonesrly with chracter weight so you can carry provisions that last longer, and often comes with ranged weapon/throwing proficiency.
Why are short races the best choice in games where you have that option?
Are large physical differences being reflected in gameplay an interesting way to make content novel?

For me, it's a trivial reason. I just like how they feel faster when moving. All races move at the same speed, but being so small creates the illusion of moving faster. While there is absolutely no actual difference, being big makes me feel so fucking slow, and I hate it.
