They made a profit last quarter despite not having any new releases. Their results for this quarter should be even more positive given the release of FBC: Firebreak

Good news for them. That doesn't necessary mean Alan Wake 2 made a profit yet, though, does it?

Exactly. A profitable quarter overall doesn’t mean individual titles pulled their weight. AW2 had a hefty budget and a niche audience—unless it got strong tail sales or Game Pass money, it might still be in the red. Firebreak probably had a smaller scope and better margins.

if they get royalties then it means it's made a profit. the deal they made with epic for aw2 was that epic would front the development cost but also gets all the revenue until they break even at which point they split the revenues 50/50 with remedy. last quarter was the first quarter that remedy got royalties from the game - hence it finally made a profit

Epic funded the game, the deal was that they get 100% of the revenue until the game turns a profit, at which point Remedy begins earning royalties. In other words, it took like 2 years for the game to break even

And people think they'll fail this time with Firebreak when they survived not making a profit on Alan Wake for what? Like 1.5 years? They can survive on their back catalog just fine it seems.

Alan Wake 2 was released in 2023 october. this article is from April.
It took them a year and a half for the game to break even then make something of a profit.
What a fucking joke.

>Fully-funded projects. Epic Games Publishing will cover up to 100% of development costs, from developer salaries to go-to-market expenses such as QA, localization, marketing, and all publishing costs.
>50/50 profit sharing. Developers earn a fair share for their work -- once costs are recouped, developers earn at least 50% of all profits.

just looked up their profit and loss

in 2024 they lost 3.6 million euros
so far they've only got 0.5 million euros profit this year
lifetime earnings for the company is 11 million euros

Not exactly terrific for something which has been operating for 30 years

I love you keep repeating this shit as if that actually excuses the game from being shit. And that's without even mentioning the race swap.

they're very lean. they own their own ips and engine so they don't pay for any licensing fees. they make deals with publishers where they get funded for the development while giving up any revenue until the publisher breaks even. this is why they've been able to keep going despite low profits

They've been getting a lot of help along the way from Take Two and Microsoft, then they went public in 2017 which raised a lot money for them. Recently, Timmy has helped them out with Alan Wake 2 funding.

I believe Rockstar is completely funding the Max Payne 1 and 2 remakes but Control 2 will be funded by Remedy only

REMEDY took a fucking billion dollars of DEPT from TENCENT last year. That's how they're now staying afloat.
Anal Woke 2 is still a disasterous flop, hated even by fellow Finns.
