i played baldurs gate 1 recently, at a certain point i randomly found an item that made my character run twice as fast, not a story item or anything just random loot. obviously the game has haste (which actually let me run 4x as fast) but you don't see that sort of thing in RPGs anymore really

in cyberpunk you can unlock advanced jumping mods, but you'll probably only unlock that at the end of the game making it feel kind of pointless

I'd rather have that shit than
>Significantly increases damage resistance
>Moderately increases maximum health
>Slightly increases damage after wanking with your left hand

Sirs can you please redeem the 2% attack speed and an 8% chance to activate a random emote when being attacked by a specific element

A lot of games are afraid to let you break them outside of roguelites these days

Why not just make one stat called level and call it a day? why bloat the game with useless bullshit that adds nothing to the gameplay

Nah. I've been playing Kill Knight and it's obnoxious as shit.
>Get something that increases the amount of heavy weapon ammo you get
>Equip it
>It's a marginal upgrade
>Get something that reduces dodge cooldown
>Literally can't tell when I have it equipped or not
>Get something that increases health from health items
>Doubles the amount of health obtained, it's fucking amazing
Just give me the fucking numbers instead of having to test whether messing around with this is worth my fucking time or not

RPG elements in non-turn based RPGs are just a band-aid for bad game design. If you were playing a fun game you wouldn't need the dopamine rush from equipped a +2 cockholster that gives you 0.4% more attack against zombies or whatever the fuck.

I love retarded granularity in character building, hit me with those ridiculously specific and obscure effect interactions which lead to runaway exponential loops
But I am incredibly autistic
Some of my favourite games are Siralim Ultimate and Horizon's Gate

Here's the rule-of-thumb for RPGs:
>If you take off all your character's armor and give them nothing but a stick, will they still be able to beat most challenges?
If "yes," then your game is probably good because it's your CHARACTER who is getting stronger. If "no," then your game is trash because your character is nothing but a weenie in a mech suit who needs shiny toys to do cool things.

Symphony of the Night irreversibly ruined the Search Action genre by introducing RPG elements, and people instead hail it as the father of the "Metroidvania" which isn't even a real genre.
