The fights in these games can take anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes and that is generally accepted, yet fights in Soulslike games that take more than 5 minutes are considered tedious and too long. What causes this discrepancy? Do souls players have a hard time focusing for more than a few minutes at a time?

They put just enough effort into the movesets that you think you're doing something when you really aren't. there's very basic positioning that you sort of just understand after playing the game for hundreds or thousands of hours. It's actually bullshit how paper thin the systems are and opening the game feels like a punishment if I didn't go out of my way to try and make the game fun again through some kit. These games sort of god grandfathered in thanks to sony and not out of any real merit. These were the sort of throw-away titles you played 15 years ago but now they're lauded as standard setting because there's nothing left. I will say visually they sell the whole "monster hunting" thing, just not mechanically.

probably the fact that they're two completely different games that play completely differently

This is prevelant in like every single game ever. If you have a long sequence fight with no breaks, that boss needs to switch things up roughly every 3m, eg phase changes etc, which is kinda expensive to develop. So generally fights in games cap out at like 3 phases max.

MH gets around this by having bosses slip into and out of phases (eg enrage etc). But also paces itself by having the boss run away every so often - it's not literally 30m of non stop fighting. Plus there's lots of stuff that can happen during the course of a hunt. You can get carted, another monster can have a territorial dispute, a particular area has traps you play around, etc

That's the main difference. It's not a "Fromsoft vs MH" thing, it's just basic game design

Hunts in Monster Hunter usually take place in multiple areas and give the player plenty of time to take a breather and get some more supplies, not to mention the fact that you get three carts even in the fights that take place in a single arena. They're designed with the idea that they take a while. Meanwhile, a Soulslike fight gives you few resources to work with and can potentially end in an instant. Those kinds of fights should not go on very long because they're not designed to let up and the price for a single failure is starting all over.

>monhun has plenty of items to replenish health and reduce status effects
>getting combo'd isn't as punishing as in the souls games
>the arenas are far larger with lots of different ways to interact with it
>the weapon movesets are more complex
>the game is entirely focused in the monster battles while souls bosses are usually at the end of a big level
>you're usually given time to breathe between phases or when the monster just runs away
>you can focus on different things other than straight up killing the monster, like breaking parts, cutting up parts or capturing the monster
And many other reasons

That said MH World is one of the best games ever made, unironically peak melee combat in the medium

Monhun (when it isn't piss-easy like 99% of Wilds) does a very good job of making you feel like you're actually tangoing with the monster instead of just pressing the roll button until it's your turn.

Because 5 minutes against a souls boss like like 60 minutes against Alatreon

This thread is making me want to reinstall MHW. I never finished Iceborne but really loved MHW.
