Oddyssey was beign claimed to be the BoTW of Mario games around the time of it's release. Once I actually played it I was pretty disappointed by things like the actual worlds and music. I wouldn't say Odyssey is even top 2 Mario games but people were sure acting like it was as if they were manipulated into thinking it is better than it really is simply because of costumes.

As a 3D Mario fan, Odyssey was the first one I didn't bother to finish, let alone 100%

The most fun I had was when I started to only get the minimum required Moons to move onto the next Kingdom and then moved on. Exploring just felt boring and not worth it. Posessing enemies was a fun gimmick, at least. I would probably really enjoy Odyssey if I were baked and just trying to relax.

It's literally the first 3D sandbox Mario with good level design. There is actually shit in the environment to interact with and platforming challenges and hazards all over the place. You're also not getting booted out of the level every time you pick something up and need to sit through constant loading screens.

That's your first pass through the worlds. When you make a second pass, the remaining tasks are much more interesting and involved.
I do think there are too many moons in the game. Removing the trivial ones would be an improvement.

Odyssey would be better if you removed several hundred moons and didn't have to do each world in sequential order for the stolen wedding items. The worlds also needed to be more organic. They're all awkwardly floating in a void.

Autism and ADHD. Lots of people here could not handle not getting 100% in each kingdom before moving on to the next so they sperged out. The way you are meant to play is get a number of moons, feel done, move onto next and repeat until 100%. Then replays just go till you get bored.
