No, but it has the closest thing to a fully realized Springfield than any other Simpsons game.
Only worth owning if you're a superfan and want to walk around Springfield in 3d.

It's one of the better licensed games of the era, but it still manages to just be "good." The only thing that lends it more legitimacy over other licensed video games is the animated cutscenes.

Speaking of the cutscenes, the DS version doesn't use the animated cutscenes from the home console versions of the game, instead opting for 3D rendered cutscenes using the models from the HD version of the game. They are otherwise identical in their content.

I wonder why these 3D versions of the cutscenes exist at all, were they made as reference material for the 2D animators or were these originally going to be the cutscenes before someone at EA or Fox decided it would be a selling point to use animated cutscenes from the shows staff.

It's still mostly funny but It was basically patient zero for modern media where nothing has an overarching purpose outside if just be entertaining.

Except The Simpsons still tries to be 'wholesome' in a kind of Charlie Brown way while also trying to deliver a certain messaging that goes completely against the comedy of the series. Like Homer being increadibly stupid and addicted to alcohol, TV at a huge detriment to his family and marriage is something that is constantly used as a way to produce humor. Until the writers decide they want a feel's episode and you have him totally turn it around for an episode to show that he really cares about his kids and Marge. Except they do this constantly in the betweens of the humor. Trying to present a horrible example of family relations as something normal because from time to time the characters resolve an issue they had in comely way.
