The people that grew up with them were edgy teens that didn't like them anymore in the early 2000s, and nostalgic adults in the late 2000s. Same reason why retro/2D games were uncool, then cool again

Their peak was when Takashi Tezuka was designing/directing their games (85-95).
He's moved on long ago to an executive role.
You cannot reverse this process unfortunately.

One thing that would improve Nintendo's games is if we could somehow force them to stop outsourcing everything. They've reclaimed Donkey Kong which is a good first step, but we really need them to reclaim Metroid and start making that in-house again.

It’s clearly the right decision. A single director can make the best game of all time and the business can still fail. That’s basically where the N64 ended up. But the people that cut their teeth making those games have ended up making the correct product strategy decisions that saved Nintendo.
I’d want nothing more than a Koizumi Zelda game, but from the business perspective, that game would just be a huge opportunity cost.

The SNES was not considered uncool zoomer. Just because of the old commercials. Only red headed step children had the Genesis. That whole baby Nintendo thing actually started with the 64 and got worse with the GC or "gaycube" as some people lovingly referred to it as. They also made fun of it for having a handle like a purse. Anyway I owned both a PS2 and GC so I never cared lol.

Its generally just a problem in Japan. In most other countries declining a promotion you dont want is fine, in Japan theres more social pressure to rise through the ranks and declining a promotion is seen as irresponsible and rude.
