"Fast travel bad" has got to be the most retarded boomer meme in gaming. What's fun about open world games is the freedom to go anywhere you want, not having to go back and forth across the same path 50 times.

>Fast travel bad? Your game is bad. Here, DD2 is what not to do!
Pretty based.

Yeah its retarded. Maybe it made sense when I was 20 with all the time to waste. But now I am 35 and married. Its pointless padding to walk around. Just teleport me to the boss

If you didn’t have to fight goblins or wolves every 30 seconds when going from point a to point b, The entire game would be like 3 hours long.

open world isnt a real genre - we're talking about bethesda games and bethesda inspired games

frankly seeing how the entire point is to have a hiking simulator and stumble upon villages and waterfalls i see it as a departure from their core competency for the sake of laziness. if there isnt instant travel there's more thought into designing variability in npcs, random encounters, and limiting how much you are sent back in forth. Its the whole point of the game, i would at least limit like only between cities as a sort of comprise. games shouldn't reward degenerate gameplay like hording consumables or cheesing

The real problem with open world games is that journey from A to B is magical the first time but boring after that. Even games like Breath of the Wild or Death Stranding, games which put a lot of effort into the traversal of their worlds, wear thin fairly quickly. The ideal open world game would keep pushing you toward the goal.

Design your world and quests better then.
You don't need 100 fetch quests

Yes, this is why San Andreas on the ps2 was the peak of open world and its been total garbage ever since then. You can just use cheats to spawn an airplane
