Japanese Turn-Based Games
These shit are way simpler than chess. Will they ever evolve beyond mindlessly spamming Fire attacks on Grass monsters? Tactical turn-based games like X-COM and Jagged Alliance already demonstrated that turn based games can have gameplay depth, but I guess the average japs will get filtered hard by anything beyond selecting attack from the menu.

That's just what the game is like when you're not playing on the game journo difficulty and overgrinding.
If the slightest hint in lethality in your games makes you think it's some CBT challenge run, then you're probably best off sticking to your pokemons.

Turnbased has already been solved both in Japan by SRPGs or DRPGs and in the west by CRPGs and Tactics games. JRPGs are just dogshit and continue to use the same dogshit turn based system pioneered by DQ and FF. It's fine for DQ and RPGM games that are supposed to be generic, but inexcusable for modern JRPGs. Which is why every modern JRPG has become action garbage.

To be fair, there's not much you can do to advance strategy in turn based games because majority of people who play it are retards. You used to balance resources, heals, buffs, etc to fight bosses and now games got easier. Devs can make fights harder by making enemies fight smarter or have unique mechanics to be more engaging, but most "gamers" won't be able to manage that or even formulate their own strategy to win fights and just resort to looking at guides.
It'd be like if they made enemies in FPS games more intelligent and use tactics. You see that shit too even in soulsslop, people bitch about delayed attacks or feints because apparently you can't have enemies in those games try to fight you smarter.
Anonymous No.713665917 [Report]
>>713664387
JRPGs just need devs who aren't afraid to have the bosses break away hard from the standard power curve of the party and making level/stats less of a factor than things like party comp, gear, skill loadout, strategy, and so forth.
I'd rather see games with low PC level caps where you simply can't out-grind the fights and have to leverage the rest of your kit to have a chance at winning, but this is simply too much for normie jarpiggie slop slurpers to handle in the modern age. Yet they wonder why JRPGs are so fucking boring these days when they select dogshit games that don't even try to challenge them.
There are still plenty of legitimately challenging JRPGs coming out though. You just don't see them reviewed favorably or discussed because they tend to lack in presentation or other things that normalgroids need in order for their choice of game to be valid in the eyes of others.

You're not fooling anyone. And I'm aware that DQ copied the combat system from Wizardy and streamlined it so that it won't
filter Japniggers.

Grinding is a good thing and almost all RPGs should let you freely grind to become stronger and overcome the problem that way.
But if you think a game is "too grindy" then in 99% of cases you're just shit and refusing to learn the game properly. Games that let you grind are only as grindy as you want them to be. If it's too grindy, stop fucking grinding and actually progress through the game. If you're still struggling, that's a skill issue.
But if you have fun grinding your way through games? That's cool, and it's good that you can find a way that you can enjoy the game just like people who play the game normally can.
Basically, it's just a problem of retards bitching and moaning.

In X-COM, you need to juggle resource management, base building and management, research, troop management, equipment manufacturing, etc., way more than "put 1 point into Magic for mage and equip the best sword for warrior" tier planning and preparation in the average JRPG, yet the combat still isn't press a button to spam the weakness exploiting moves on the static jpeg of boss. Planning isn't exclusive to JRPG. Other genres have too and they sure don't reduce the execution phase into mindless 1-button affair that might as well be automated.

even in older games it always felt not running away from any random encounters and exploring everything led me to being grossly overleveled
it never takes much to build a team to 2-3 turn random encounters, and with the usual "hold button to skip animations" feature the victory tune and drops window usually is longer than the fight

These are the games that made me realize that NO, turn based combat ISN'T shit, it's just JRPGs.

People go on and on about the webm game specifically being "super tough" and the only reason it's that way is because the game expects you to, beforehand, know enemies weaknesses and know which demons to make to give you the best chances of exploiting enemy weaknesses and having protection/heals...that's it. If you know that stuff (which is very easy in modern day thanks to the internet) then there is no challenge. You know how to beat it very easily. There is no depth. Bashing your head against the wall figuring out stuff on your own serves no purpose but to waste time...which might've been okay back then but does not hold up now.
