It is better at running games in some cases. Though it will never be quite as easy and smooth as Windows.

Anon I've spent over a thousand working hours in linux this year ago, I know what I said. The second you deviate from the lowest common functional denominator you've chosen the path of terminal.
A retard like you who probably only plays tf2, no sweat.
A power user like me who might want to mod skyrim? Nightmare.

The major problem with linux I have is compatibility. Everything I need for my job and school is proprietary and only usable on windows. Gaming is a similar situation as practically nothing is natively supported on linux unless you are playing it through a compatibility layer like proton but even then there are bound to be issues and sometimes it straight up doesn't work while on windows you can just double click an exe file. You might say
>"well why not just dual boot?"
What the fuck is the point of using linux at all then? I game on windows, all of my productivity is also on windows. I can watch videos, listen to music, jack off to porn and argue with people online just fine under windows so what am I realistically going to use Linux for? Just customizing my tiling manager and taking a screenshot for five seconds before switching back to windows?

The main selling point to me is its FOSS philosophy. Windows has grown to be increasingly buggy and slow compared to linux and feels like they own your machine to shill you AI and ms edge, it makes linux's community driven nature a breath of fresh air.

The MS shills have completely destroyed that OS, so Linux is the only option.
Now we should carefully choose generic PC that Linux works on even if you use Windows for a while until it breaks.
It would die randomly and suddenly.

I'm planning to make the move to linux this year as I refuse to move to w11. W10 is shit enough I don't want an even worse experience.

You can run almost everything on linux if you jump through the hoops but yeah it won't be natively. I'm hoping that the occasional game not working won't be that big of a deal.

My impression of proton is that it runs things pretty effortlessly and what doesn't work on it should work in a windows VM. Malware anti-cheat might be a problem but in some cases even those can be ran in a VM.

Nice thing is that valve is fully supporting it because they don't want to be stuck on windows if microsoft starts acting up. Support will only get better as time goes on and SteamOS is likely to see a desktop release.

Modern Windows is slowing becoming Linux and Linux is slowly becoming Windows. Computing is dead, all you can do is run the oldest Windows your hardware supports and that can run the software you want.

It means you can't be stupid and delete system32, besides extra stuff from valve, its pretty much same as usual arch linux install.

If you want something more toward desktop then mint or bazzite are better picks.

I don't know about the playability but you shouldn't get banned for playing the singleplayer campaign, if you're worried about it, you could prob run it offline without issue since it's a pretty old game.

I understand that this is a huge part of what keeps people on windows but if you can't take 30 seconds to search "immutable file system" it doesn't matter how much they babyproof a distro you probably won't do well on Linux. Making a distro for people who can't do that would pretty much defeat the point of switching and you might as well just concede and give MS control over your system in exchange for your operating system being able to just work all the time.

Most popular distros work straight out of box, you only ever need fiddle with wine/proton fuckery, even then it don't take too much to setup few parameters.
