So I am of mixed views. I used to think "it can't get any worse" but my wow-playing friend saw a similarity to the player pop trend of XIV and WOW circa BFA to shadowlands. Shadowlands seeming to be the worst of WOW's expansions to date made me realize

At the same time the worseness I figure is chiefly in story. In gameplay it's been bad for some time so it's less worse and more 'same as it ever was' and was is 'bad'. I have no angst over the underwhelming gameplay because I just accept that they will never fix that. I wish they could, I really do. But expecting them to do so will lead me nowhere good.

The collapse in players (currently equal-ish to Stormblood before SHB, so it's a drop to 2019 levels) may light a fire in their ass, but more likely is the rent-seeking of product placement they've been going hard in the paint with. But as I said I am so demoralized all I want is a story that is not offensively bad. Just an adequate to good/decent story and I will be fine returning to my HW-SB era playstyle of

Lmao the only way 8.0 isn't dogshit like dawntrail is if the following happens

1. Yoshida is fired
2. The entire board of directors commits harakiri as a public apology and they vow to never hire from california or israel ever again
3. They let the young new talent take the helm and start working on the game because they have more creativity and talent than anyone right now, which would warrant they get a proper wage and not the scraps that SE pays its employees below upper management

one of the worst things about ff14 which made me miss wow to some degree was the extreme homo lust half the pop had. Half of every dungeon or raid was filled with dudes wearing nothing but a speedo, just completely kills the immersion in the game. At least in wow the most you'd see is the rare slutmog of some elf or human and everyone else was rocking an armor set or some type clothes combo for their transmog. FF14 is an entirely other level of horny.
