I mean, it's smart to keep things behind a business because it means you have no liability personally. I own four rental properties and they're all owned by an LLC in my name. They used to be in my name when I lived in them but I transferred them to an llc run by me once it was time to rent them out. I hire out a property management company for them too. That way if anything happens and a tenant has to sue they would have sue the LLC, not me personally. This is why businesses exist so people can take risks without potentially losing everything in their personal life. However, it seems that Billy sued Karl not Karl's company so Billy will get his even if they have to garnish Karl's wages.
