I just love how, in these games the black gangs are the absolute lowest tier of wannabe gangsters. Just like real life. And I love running over Indian taxi drivers and that woman who screams "No way, Jose" repeatedly when there's an explosion or something. So good.

Played and finished this game like 2 weeks ago. Absolute piece of shit game that aged like milk. Genuinely one of the worst games I've ever played. I'm (re)playing Vice City and now that game is really fucking good, I appreciate the game even more after playing the trash that was GTA3

yea i really wish the other 3d gtas were more like it, just very simple "here's an objective, go complete it" every game further in to the series, the more hoops there are to jump through to complete any given mission, and not in a good way just boring wait for npc to talk, carefully follow specified path, etc.
that's why i always come back to this gem annually while every other game is a wait 5 years between replays deal

the remaster runs very nicely, been playing it this week and almost finished. gta3 doesn't have accessible strip clubs but i played SA and that had them.

one thing they improved on in the remaster was the local car variety. I remember in the original they'd only write a few cars to ram at a time so you'd have to travel around looking for a new batch of cars. now there are more different cars at a time

Unfortunaly it was the watershed game that got normies into video games beyond maybe a sports ball one. Video games were no longer the nerd hobby. The only thing close to a normie space was Nintendo where most people have at least tried some sort of mario game or played super smash or something like that.

The true GTA3 experience is limited to only those who had PlayStation 2's at the time of its release. It couldn't be experienced the same way in ports or re-releases. There was nothing like it, a city caked in atmospheric fog full of life from one end to the other, even when there was an absence of others there was always the proof they existed, rolling trash and forgotten newspapers flying off into the wind, the distant rumble of a train never too far and hearing distant traffic arguments from around the block.

Hey, I remember a bunch of solid improvements: you could jump out of a moving car, you could crouch, gun balance was better, you could buy safehouses so you no longer had to drive halfway through the island to save the game, you could fly by plane/helicopter.
What I didn't like about VC especially was the diminished aspect of gang-on-gang violence, whereas in 3 they each had a distinct home turf.

I think what DE lacked or straight up got rid of, that was actually both sovlful and looked good, was the texture work on peds. Subtleties like facial shading had more depth than given credit if you liked at the texture mapping. Everything in DE looks smooth and clay-like.

It's obviously accidental, but I love how eerie the game feels. Everything is just similar enough to the real article to make it obvious what the game's trying to recreate (New York City) but little cracks and gaps in the facade make the whole thing uneasy or just plain strange. Throw in good voice acting and it comes off like a devil wearing a really bad and uncanny-looking mask. No other game in the series nails this vibe.

Why did games have such thicker atmosphere back then? There was a period from the late 90s to early 2000s where loads of mainstream games had really great, gloomy ambience. I can’t even think of a recent game that comes even close to something like GTA 3 in terms of that feeling. But back then you had Deus Ex, Thief, Max Payne, Hitman, Manhunt, Stalker… just loads of games with a really immersive moody atmosphere.

It's really frustrating on the 3rd island with the narrow roads and the long routes from section to section. Plus the fbi loves suicide charges that eventually slow you down and prevent you picking up speed. Obviously the enemy army tanks are worse and I think in my latest playthrough I just reset my wanted status to give me breathing room.
Challenge is fine but I felt like I was more dependent on getting a good spawn for the target than anything else.

I recently played the demo of Pigface and I thought the farmhouse level had this authentic feel with all the little details. Reminded me of Ghost Recon 1 especially. I guess you really have to downgrade the graphics to pull off the look.

I don't know all of them as I originally nabbed it from an anon here but it is based on re3 with ps2 hud, the restored double cleff fm song, what looks to be the contents of the leftovers fix and I manually added the vehicle light fix that got backported to pc by someone from the android version. I just slapped a reshade over it to tweak the gamma and bloom a little so it looks 95% how it does on my actual crt and boom.

I love GTA3 but the fact that progressing the story makes 1/3 of the city start instantly deleting you with shotguns is really fucking retarded. Like there's no way they play tested doing taxi missions on a completed save file, the mob makes them fucking impossible.
