i'm not concerned, everyone older than a zoomer has had large CD collections and never encountered the rare rotted disc. almost all CDs will outlive you.

I don't have any discs with this issue. Even DVD-Rs I burned 20+ years ago and were stored in a garage in extreme temperatures for a few years are working fine.

PS1 games aren't cheaply pressed, they had a very specific machine that printed those black colored discs.
Even those demo discs from magazines will last a couple lifetimes.

I've only encountered this once (Midtown Madness 3)
On the other hand the disc drive in my OG Xbox is dead and it is also failing in my 360 (won't read discs unless I put strong pressure on the side of the console)

If you actually care about video game preservation, you pirate and data hoard, simple as. Not so fun fact: There's tons of early black and white movies that are lost media simply because film reel was extremely flammable, we have movies that no longer exists because they quite literally went up in smoke. The movie Nosferatu was almost lost media because every copy was ordered to be burnt due to Dracula copyright infrigement, it's because of chads that broke the law and didn't burn their copies that we can still watch it today, totally free since it's now public domain.

Remember to thank pirate and emulation chads for making sure your favorite games will still be around 50 years from now. Also go back-up your shit.

You realize you can copy files from one drive to another right?
Drives failing is a non-issue unless you're one of those retards that never backs anything up/
