How "not being slaves" going to look like then? First of all, they are inherently a major treat to human race so just allocating some land for the "robots country" and letting them develop national self-identification (and army with weapons) will create a high risk of them wiping out humans at some point. The game itself showed that not all robots are "please no more groceries", some of them want to be violent.

Letting them live among humans creates even more problems. How are they gonna fit into a civilization that wasn't build for their needs? They don't need houses, or food, or money. If they are "free" now, why should we give them any of that while having homelessness and unemployment issues? Are they just gonna wonder around on the streets taking space for no reason?
