They're actually decent games. NiGHTs is a genuinely good game (didn't get to play the Wii one), and the fact that its systems (Nightopians) live on in Adventure 1 & 2 and will probably never be reversed-engineered, further shows how important NiGHTs was.

Everything became Easter Egg fodder aside from Sonic. It used to be the other way around, and new Sega titles would be coming out left and right dropping an easter-egg.
