I tried giving this a fair shot out of morbid curiosity.
Hit quickplay, load into a room, 'go do this busy work', zombies with bizarrely bad AI and collision sort of make an attempt to chase you. You move really slowly yet nothing has any weight to it. Not at all engaging.
It's really shit, even for whatever genre of slop this is.

firebreak currently sells for $40 on steam.
it is also on gamepass which I can grab for $15, try it, realize its shit, hate it and go play something good like doom eternal or sifu.
firebreak did not earn any money. Players being a metric is just to lie to the consumer to say it is popular, its like saying roblox is popular because its has a billion players, this only matters if you play the same games others are playing in roblox.

What writing quality? Lake is just a Lynch fanboy which is a common midwit affliction. You can throw a rock and hit 50 psued retards that all idolize Lynch like Lake. It's why he so easily and readily trend chased "current thing" in his writing with female empowerment and blacksploitation. All hallmarks of an imitator and not a true creative. Lynch acolytes all share this trait because the magnetism to Lynch betrays a seeking need nurtured by the midwit to express the profound. That desire is at odds with the end goal. This isn't shitting on Lynch, it's not his responsibility that his imitators are doomed to fit this mold. But it is very fitting and very funny to see the fruits of his overhyped influence.

Nothing you just said, whether true or not, invalidates any of their previous works level of writing. It’s hard to take an identity politics warriors opinions at face value because most of you are disingenuous in your arguments, left or right. But to discredit their past works and write them off as lynch clones isn’t even worth arguing.

>>713713213
People who follow news related to streaming services are the most redpilled on these games that entertainment companies play. There are a bajllion different ways to make low numbers sound impressive to those who don't ask questions. I don't think that "players" even has a standardized means of counting them. How do we know they're not saying -
>There's an average of 2.5 people in a household. Therefor, each account that connects is 2.5 players! Rounded up because you can't have half a player!
Legally defensible, probably. But also absolute bullshit. And that's just one example of how they could cook the numbers.

When a company is using ambiguous, novel measurements for success when the standard metrics say that they're doing poorly, you know that they're being dishonest.

counting the number of subscribers that engage with a particular product on a platform is not a "novel" measurement. that's been a thing for more than 15 years now. this is only a problem for culture war retards. movies, shows, music all operate on a number of streams metric despite the fact that you can buy movies, shows, and albums off of streaming sites. games are no different

>every form of media uses streams and user counts
because they aren't selling direct to the consumer, they're licensed through a streaming service, normally games are sold at a typical 1:1 ratio of sale to player
gamepass could be comparable, but I don't know what amount of money the devs get per user, likewise for ubisoft+ and psn+

they are selling direct to consumer. people still buy individual songs on amazon, people still buy physical cds and records, people buy bluray versions of movies and shows. this all exists but no one claims that these sales are omitted in public announcements because of some desire to hide embarrassing numbers. and just like gamepass the deals that individual artists and studios make with thr streaming sites is not known. yet no one kvetches about that when it comes to literally any other piece of media

So how come despite having "3 million players", AC Shadows underperformed, Ubisoft stock didn't get the boost it needed to avoid the Tencent offer, and they had to bend the knee to the chinks?
There are lots of examples of games having some several million players only to find out after internal reports come out that the game underperformed and didn't turn a profit
this issue doesn't seem to happen for music/movies/tv shows, so why is it just games? could it be, I dunno, that the forms of media aren't actually as comparable as you'd like to claim them to be?

what the fuck does that have to do with anything? the central point I'm making is that when you have subscription based models involved then the raw number of sales does not actually give a good measure of the reach of a piece of media and that's why it makes sense to use streams or players.

what some retards here are arguing is that companies do this because they're lying or they want to avoid embarrassing numbers. you can have 3 million players and underperform. you can also have 3 million sales and underperform. the actual player or sales number doesn't actually tell you the financials of the company without additional information like budget and revenue gained from streaming sites or gamepass/ps+

>when you have subscription based models involved then the raw number of sales does not actually give a good measure of the reach of a piece of media and that's why it makes sense to use streams or players.
streams =/= profits. selling direct to players is the only measure of success for videogames, partly due to the sheer price disparity between buying a copy of the game, and paying a fee to goypass or whatever, and partly because gamepass players are only counted to try and fleece investors. this is why they should be discounted from actual playercounts.
>what some retards here are arguing is that companies do this because they're lying or they want to avoid embarrassing numbers
they absolutely are, because of aforementioned investors. they want more money, either through sales or investment. you seem to be discounting this despite us having evidence of ubisoft doing everything in their power to avoid telling investors the actual sales of asscreed shadows.

>selling direct to players is the only measure of success for videogames
no it's actually not. there is also revenue from game pass and ps+. if they have a deal where they get paid more by number of players then that revenue could be significant. and even then that wouldn't tell you profits because you still don't know the overall costs related to the game.

and there are multiple metrics for different types of measures. streams/players is a measure of the audience reach of a piece of media. al album for instance have low sales but high amount of streams. this is why in music discussions for instance the number of streams that an artist has is used as a proxy for how popular they are.

also I really don't get what your obsession with Ubisoft is but they're a publicly traded company. they literally have to file an accurate quarterly report disclosing their profits by law. so there would be no point of lying about player counts. anyone who wants to invest just has to look at their numbers

oh you literally don't know? they genuinely tried to avoid telling their investors the actual sales figures, legality be damned.
