No one will care and the DLC will flop. So much goodwill and hype was killed on 2's release because of the MTX and performance issues. Of those players that stuck with it, most dropped it or finished but felt let down. The few left are fans that will get the DLC.

As much as I want it to happen, even though Dark Arisen was made without Itsuno I worry after the response to DD2 at launch and his departure that there just might not be anyone in a high enough position at Capcom to champion a DLC expansion pitch to get the greenlight. I think if Capcom has any further ambition to keep the IP going (they should, it's literally the only successful new IP launch Capcom has had in over a decade.) that they do a DLC expansion, but I can just as easily see the IP getting put on the shelf with no one to champion it like with what happened to Mega Man when no one wanted to step up and pitch a new game following Inafune's departure.

I just also hope that Itsuno doesn't get fucked over by his Chinese handlers at his new studio too. Tencent is more globally active than a company like Netease but as the domestic Chinese game industry continues to grow I wouldn't consider it impossible to similarly pull out of their foreign business endeavors like NetEase has been doing to focus on growing their domestic business. Nagoshi (the old Yakuza guy from Sega) just had his studio that was funded and formed by NetEase shutdown recently before it ever could have released something as part of it's ongoing efforts to pull out of funding non-chinese studios.

Yeah I wouldn't be expecting it either. While I have my doubts that a DLC expansion is happening, to be fair to the notion it took Resident Evil 8 over a year and a half to see it's DLC expansion release. Now granted - Capcom had announced that DLC was in production much earlier than when they finally revealed it, but Capcom has established a cadence of spacing out when they release their DLC far enough away to give them a good excuse to release a new package of the game + DLC to still sell it at full price usually around the time they start to have the stomach to offer a price cut. If we reach the 2 year anniversary with nothing however, at that point I'm considering any real possible development towards the game as over. It'll be a shame, but it is what it is.

If they are making an expansion, they might wan to deliberately wait until it's like 90% done instead of revealing it too early so people don't build too much hype/expectations. I think that's partially what happened with the intial release so they may have saw how hyped people got and want to avoid that this time. But yeah, I think this might be the last year for a potential announcement. Any longer and the IP is either dormant/dead again or they're working on 3.

I feel like there's no way that they moved straight to 3 before making a DLC both because the base game already dropped hints of a northern realm in item descriptions and text bubbles during loading screens, which always felt like the seeds for a DLC expansion and that DLC production is simply too profitable for these type of games not to pursue as a way to collect more revenue before moving onto the next project. (IF they assess that pouring such resources into one would be financially worth it.) I think if we hit the 2 year mark with nothing, it's safer to just simply presume that the IP is now dormant. I see considerable merit in your line of thinking however, and I could see what might just end up being a very quick announcement to release lead time if they have been working on DLC. (Which I would presume is probably something closer in scope to a Shadow of the Erdtree as a full proper expansion.)

I would note that currently there is a gap in Capcom's current release schedule with nothing notable announced for the fall/holiday season. Currently all of their announced major projects are all slated for 2026 releases, that fall window might be what they've been planning a DLC expansion launch for, it would also fit the same lead time they had when they revealed the RE8 DLC. It was revealed in the summer, and then released in the fall that same year.

I found that what DD2 attempted to do well, it really did do pretty well, and what it attempted to do was the feeling of setting out from gran soren with a destination in mind and just walking through the world until you got there. It's a really nice world.

The problem was everything else. It needs some sort of like, "expedition mode" where they seed random events in the world on a path between two points, and expect you to figure it out.

THe game needed 2 more regions or yes, some random generation content to "explore" like an endless tower or dungeon. The adventure aspect with a party is still there, it just fails at the other stuff. Like why is the customization so limited, there should be way more than this in a game like this, and the enemy variety is way too aparent due to the fixed spawns, mods show that this didnt even need to be the case, its easy to get enemies to roam and provide more interesting encounters.

>So much goodwill and hype was killed on 2's release because of the MTX and performance issues
The MTX didn't do shit. People blew them out of proportion, even when informed this is common practice for Capcom now, and you can play the game just fine without them. RE4R had worse MTX, but that's their flagship series, so it was obviously ignored.
Performance issues definitely hurt it more than anything. That and the map being fucking huge, yet just as, if not more, empty than DD1. The limitations and downgrades from DD1 in general left the game feeling just as unfinished as DD1; even though the "twist" was interesting, it doesn't make up for the rest of the game.
Sucks that the game can be pretty fun, but playing it feels like you're being carrot-and-stick'ed to avoid seeing how much is missing.

The game is fine, it feels different to DD1 but its not bad at all. The dissapointment comes from the lack of evolution and real improvement after 10 years, the things that it "improved" are just standard fare for games now, they arent special jsut because DD is doing them now. Its just different, rather than an improvement, and thats why it kindof sucks.

if you can get it for $30 or under, yeah sure. The problem at release (and to this day) was that they charged $70 for an empty shell of a game. low enemy variety, low number of vocations, low number of skills, near non-existent rewards for exploration.

Basically the combat is great, but it has little content to keep it going for long and they've not improved its shortcommings post launch.

The fact the games sales quickly flatlined tells you everything you need to know about the general player reception. Games with good reception & good word of mouth keep selling well post-launch like E33 right now, or ER or BG3. DD2 had a strong launch and then instantly dropped dead due to poor word of mouth.

Steam reviews alone are not enough since the game released on multiple platforms. I don't even care if the majority view of it is negative but trying to base that belief solely on Steam reviews is beyond retarded. if you poll 100k people on the subject, that is a large enough sample for it to be representative. Its a larger sample than the majority of research you'll see and it's most likely about as good as its going to get and the statistical deviation is not going to change it from an overwhelmingly negative sentiment to a positive one. Beyond that, the only conclusion you could draw is that "we just dont know and we can never know" and that would apply to pretty much anything ever. It certainly does not suggest the opposite is true in any capacity though.

The combat is worse than DD1.
Melee is much clunkier and lacks weight
Some classes are better (warrior) while others are trash unless you spam the same move over and over again
There are two new classes and one is just a buffer type that enhances your pawns, you deal zero dmg youself
There are few enemy types than in DD1
Level design and story/dialogues is even worse than in DD1

Unless every sale was on Steam then no, it's not. Again, you might be right that it has a negative reception overall but this obsession with Steam charts and data is really bad. It's flimsy data, anybody can go a leave whatever they want there for any petty reason. And like I said, Japanese devs have historically been console devs. Most people growing up with Japanese games also played on consoles and the original DD wasn't on PC. Over the last 5-10 years Japanese devs have started to port and release everything on PC but a large part of their audience is still on consoles. Steam reviews are not a good metric to judge overall reception on a multi-platform release, especially a Japanese since the player base might be more fragmented.

Yes, it's comparable to DD1 before Dark Arisen in terms of enemy variety, difficulty, ect- it does have more content purely in terms of # of quests and world size however.

A lot of the hate for DD2 comes from people who expected DD2 to be the game they imagined in their heads DD1 would be if DD1 didn't have the flaws it always had. DD2 is simply DD1 again, with updated graphics, overhauled physics, and a doubling down on many "flaws" that should be clearly identified as intentional design decisions now.

If you liked DD1 (especially before/without Dark Arisen additions) you will enjoy DD2 a comparable amount. If your primary enjoyment of DD1 came from things that were added post launch as DLC/Dark Arisen, or if you felt very passionate that DD1 was flawed and believe a doubling down on it's idiosyncrasies would be a problem for you, then you will probably be very critical of DD2.

Do you know how many are actually reviewing the content of the game itself and not just instantly leaving a negative review if it doesn't run on their machine? Posting the bullshit leak

Tentative title: Dragonโ€™s Dogma 2: The Riftwalker

Expansion to Dragonโ€™s Dogma 2, more of a standalone expansion in scale like Bloodborne Old Hunters or DDDA but with new map and systems

New land: โ€œMournveldโ€ โ€“ highlands with underground tomb-cities and giant's keeps. Artworks aldo show a palace in state of decay, and then a ballroom with creepy mannequins.

New vocations include: โ€œGravedancerโ€ (uses scythe + necromantic rites to summon spirits and wraiths) and "Warden" (uses flails and magic greatshields that get buffed by storing elemental damage and then using it).

There's a new randomized endgame mode called the Veil as well as an Hard mode.

Purification and Rarifying mechanics return with a new Relic system for gear upgrades

Upgrading weapons and armor can unlock randomized effects like elemental buffs, stat boosts, and unique passives

Players use Purification to cleanse cursed relics in these dungeons, unlocking effects or risking negative drawbacks

Internal target: Q4 2025

It won't happen but DD2 is an incredibly easy game to fix. It's main issue is not that it was a BAD game, it was simply unfinished. Adding in the rest of the main story and fleshing out the sidequests that were clearly not done doesn't take a lot of thought processing to get done. What else does it need?

>Rebalance combat, which is now too far in the favor of the player
>Large enemies need to be more stun/stagger/knockdown resistance, as well as be more aggressive
>Enemy diversity is a problem, add in a few new mobs and add some cheap alternate versions of existing ones
>Flesh out the "endgame" post title-drop portion of the game a bit more because holy fuck it's so cool but so much wasted potential

A pipe dream i've always had would be for them to add something with more replayability so that the pawn system doesn't go to waste, give people a reason to keep checking in on the game and work with their or other players pawns instead of just quitting the game and uninstalling.

You made a broad sweeping statement, were asked to clarify, and are now running in circles shitting yourself because you either never knew what you were talking about to begin with or lack the mental capacity to explain it. "Everything" is "sluggish", are you talking about the story? the combat? the movement? the questing? the exploration? If you could explain your point then people could discuss it and may in fact agree with you, if you can't explain it then brother that's on you and you alone.

"Everything is bad it's the worst ever!!" People like this make discussing any video game on this board, and frankly the internet as a whole these days, a fucking chore, don't be one of them little timmy.

so if you liked DD1 for the figthing and feeling of adventure then you'll like DD2, but if quests and dungeons were what you replayed DD1 for then forget about it
that's why some people are still hopeful for a Dark Arisen like expansion, such an infusion content would signficantly elevate the experience from that it's missing...

dd2 has way better and more unique quests than 1. 1 just has copy paste collect X items Kill Y monsters.
less content variety, yes.

The quests in 2 were fucking retarded. I hated all of the stealth quests and fetch quests

honestely I kinda agree with you on this, but there are some things about DD2 it's best not to discuss here as of yet (I mean for almost a full year it was literally impossible to have genuine discussion about DD2, the thread would be automatically bombed - this game did a wild number on posters here)

however
while I do share your disdain for the quest board slop in DD1, the problem with DD2 quests is that they are only fine in Vermund
when you get to Batthal the quest quality just fucking plummets, crashes and burns
it's super obvious the devs were in the middle of working that region when they got told to wrap it up and release the game
shit, in my first playthrough I genuinely got more than 60 hours just fucking in Vermund alone, but I get to Batthal and not even 10 hours later I'm already at the Volcanic Island
at least with DD1, while the early to mid game is a slog, by the 2nd half quests started getting pretty interesting... then the game abruptly ends that and tells you it's time to face the Dragon...

this franchise is so fucking cursed and deserves better

I fully believe >>713752172 and when covid slowed everything down they took the opportunity to stripmine DD2 to help keep other projects floating and then instead of putting that effort back into the game they told Itsuno to release it in a few months and call it a day. They also most likely didn't want it to creep into the MH6 window and that helped seal the deal.

I think it more likely started as a remake and turned into a sequel late in development

Maybe, but it doesn't seem to suffer from design decisions, just a lack of time.

All Itsuno had to do was port the combat from 1 into 2 and then make the map Elden Ring sized and full of challenging enemies. Do that, then fix Warrior, give fighters a mounted attack, and then add spears and unarmed combat. That's it. If Itsuno had done this, it would've been GOTY.

If it exists they'll show it at the Tokyo Game Show in September, if nothing has been said for it tomorrow nothing will be shown.

We know Itsuno only stayed at Capcom because they let him make DMC5 and DD2. Those two games were his requirements to stay, Capcom agreed but only if he used RE Engine for DMC5 and I guess they pushed for it with DD2 as well or he felt good about the engine after DMC5. The cycle is an unavoidable part of DD, every game would feel like a reboot or remake because its the same premise of a dragon attacks, you become Arisen and are called to adventure to stop it.

>then make the map Elden Ring sized
why do you fags focus on the worst shit?
The map was fine. The problem is there was a complete lack of variety to justify the size. Making the map BIGGER doesn't matter if it's not full of stuff.

The map was actually the best part of the game.

I have no idea why MH6 turned out to be so ugly.

It was dragon's dogma in sequel in the true sense of the word. It had a solid (enough) foundation and then didn't bother capitalizing on it properly. At least DD got the DA expansion to patch some of the holes whilst DD2 just languished.

I don't mean the shitty maps that Dogma 2 had, I mean the unique biomes, aesthetics, and enemies that every area in Elden Ring had.
>Making the map BIGGER doesn't matter if it's not full of stuff.
When I say map, I mean enemies too. If Itsuno had done what I said then he would've had the full dev time to focus solely on the map and the encounters in it. There was no need to waste dev time revamping the combat to be worse than it was in the first game. Just port the combat from 1 into a new game with more content and enemies for me to fight.
