Mario Kart World has 32 tracks, and dozens of roads linking them together. The actual tracks are good, the roads linking them together not so much. Unfortunately, Grand Prix is formated in a way where two of the three laps are spent driving to your destination, so you're only spending one lap on the actual track. In online races you have the option to choose between three tracks nearest to the track you raced previously, and a random option. Online players discovered that choosing random started you off at the destination track with the classic three lap format, and as a result Random became the overwhelming majority selection because players prefer three lap races. Nintendo released a patch that includes the three predetermined tracks in the Random, meaning you can no longer reliably get three lap races by choosing the Random option.

The game now has "intermission" laps where you need to drive to the new course in the first lap, rather than just starting at the start gate, like in past games. The autistic zoomers can't handle this, so they would always vote for the random option, which would allow for the traditional 3 lap setup. Nintendo patched the game, so now random votes are much less likely to win, forcing the intermission lap much more consistently because that's how they want users to play. The autistic zoomers, as expected, are bitching about it to holy heaven because they hate change.

God, thatโ€™s actually so Nintendo it physically hurts. They make this cool sprawling world concept and then completely bungle the execution by forcing you to drive 2/3rds of the race through glorified loading screens. Then they *patch out* the only workaround players found to enjoy the game how they want. It's like they saw people having fun and said, โ€œNo, youโ€™re having the wrong type of fun.โ€ Classic anti-fun dev energy.

Grand prix and the current knockout tours only take you through like about 50-60 of them, so you only see the remaining through Vs mode

No, it makes perfect sense. Nintendo do developed the game a certain way to make tracks more organic to shill their new features, tryhards tried to exploit a way around that through a loophole and Nintendo nerfed the loophole. I will always respects a business that crushes competitive metas in games that don't need metas.

Critical thinking isn't a strong suit when talking to nintendo fanboys. Majority of people hate the intermission tracks despite what the Yes-Men say on here and other social media. From what I watched as well, people pick random the majority of the time to avoid playing intermission.

Mario Kart 8 doesn't have the new trick/grind/wall ride systems that everyone has grown to love. And wouldn't you know it, neither do most of the connecting roads. It's almost as if people WANT to interact with the new systems and the connecting roads are just not as engaging.

The issue is bagging. It doesn't matter if the traditional setup is instituted, it still won't fix bagging. People have a massive incentive to hang back, get lighting bolts, mushrooms, and bullet bills, and then plow ahead. Getting rid of the intermission laps to appease your comp build that doesn't do well on dirt roads/water won't fix the inherent flaw of the game.

>Frontrunning isn't a death sentence even with the worse item rolls

>Have huge expanses of nothingness you can skip with one good item
>Winning relies heavily on the kinds of items you can take with you into higher positions near the very end
Bagging is only as big of an issue as it is because the intermissions are so shit
