I just got a switch 2
Is there any reason I shouldn't do the system transfer? It doesn't wipe my data on the original switch does it?
I don't have a micro sd for the switch 2 so I don't think everything will fit...

It only wipes save data that don't back up to the cloud like Animal Crossing and the Pokรฉmon games, everything else gets copied. As long as you don't have over 256 GB of data on the micro SD card you were using on Switch 1, it will fit.

Adding an appropriate pic, I guess.

Just link the new one to the same Nintendo account and do the virtual game card swap thing until each machine has what you want on it.

so skip the system transfer?
I was considering it but I don't know if there's anything it does that you can't just do later manually

> During a local system transfer, save data that is supported by Save Data Cloud Backup for users that are linked to a Nintendo Account will remain on the Nintendo Switch console and be copied to the Nintendo Switch 2 console. Save data for user accounts that are not linked to a Nintendo Account and save data for games not supported by Save Data Cloud Backup will be deleted from the Nintendo Switch console after transferring.
> After uploading data for a server system transfer, the source Nintendo Switch console will be initialized. This deletes all data on the console and resets it to factory settings.
Oh, so as long as you do a 'local' transfer you shouldn't lose anything. neat

it doesn't transfer your games, just your save data and gallery. you have to redownload all your games.
do the transfer, there's no good reason not to.

I didn't do the system transfer because I wanted to restart pokemon. It turned out to be for the best because you can still pick and choose which games to download thanks to the fucking weird and arbitrary digital card system. You can also choose to download your data at the time of download, so you can play new or move forward every time. For these reasons I advise against it, since any data you want can be moved later.

then move it to your PC or something before you start the transfer so it's empty.

If I had a Switch 2 I wouldn't transfer from 1 because Nintendo made it needlessly complicated and convoluted with no explicit guarantee of anything. They've become a garbage company.

Are you saying you can download save data and everything every time you load one of the gay digital cards?
Does this work in reverse if you want to go back to the switch 1?

>Are you saying you can download save data and everything every time you load one of the gay digital cards?
Yes. So I have a file of pokemon sword on switch 1, I download the card on switch 2. I can choose NOT to download my data and start over. I cannot say if this fucks over my cloud backups but frankly I don't care because I don't use them.
>Does this work in reverse if you want to go back to the switch 1?
I imagine it would, if you bought a game on switch 2, then moved it over to switch 1 it would also give you the option to move the save data as well.

I forgot those were things. My question is how the back buttons would function, if you could map them to something specifically or newer games had a function in mind for them.

Right, but we're not talking about that. I disabled those on my deck because I kept accidentally drinking estus. Nintendo games are much less open source.

They're mappable. You hold the home button, then select one of them from the menu, and then press the button you want to map to it. It's set per game and per user profile.

I thought you could transfer save data on your microSD card but it seems like you need an Express

All my save data is on the SD and I already traded in my Switch and it's not on cloud. How do I get my saves on my Switch 2

yeah your post has big "IF i had a switch 2" vibes. there's nothing convoluted about it, pokefags are just chimping out over having to move their pokemon saves instead of copying them. you're never going to use your switch 1 again, get over it.
>but what if i-
you aren't. there's no reason to.
see you in a few years when the next gen comes out and you buy a switch 2 from the "garbage company" to keep playing baby's first RPG.
