You know those intermission tracks -- the long straightaways connecting the courses -- that everyone hates? Well there was a way to play online without having to suffer through them. If you picked Random, you'd actually get a 3-lap course. So you could enjoy your traditional Mario Kart without the dogshit intermissions mucking things up.

In the latest patch, Nintendo made it so Random still gives you intermissions, meaning if you want to play online you have to suffer through them. No more 3-lap races. No, instead you drive on 3 boring highways and then get to do 1 lap of the course you actually picked to play.

This would be more like if Nintendo removed the option to choose Stock matches and you had only a small chance of actually getting one. Every other match you're forced to play Time, the mode no one likes but is still the standard mode of the game.

Or imagine Splatoon ranked but you only have a chance of getting the non-Turf Wars game modes. Wanted to play Tower Control, Splat Zones, or Rain Maker? Too bad, you only have a 12.5% chance of playing them.

They wouldn't "spam" random if there was any other way to play without Intermissions. No one likes the Intermissions which is why everyone picked Random. If you played online in the days prior to the game-ruining update, you'd see 20+ people picking Random every race because they wanted to actually race on the courses.

Basically this. I didn't buy the game or a Switch 2, but I'm also not understanding why people are so upset with this. You bought the Switch 2, you bought Mario Kart World, you're going to keep playing the game online, and you're going to buy all the boost packs and paid DLC for the game. It's been proven multiple times over that people online complaining about Nintendo are all bark with less than no bite. So Nintendo will continue to do whatever they want and people online will complain but accept it and do nothing about it but continue to give Nintendo money.

Nintendo must remove all negative cognitive feedback from their products. Trying to meaningfully strive for a goal only brings needless mental strain and thought. It will be better for you all if you just have fun mashing trick-emotes and collecting the shiny floating gacha cubes for a sweet innocent dopamine rush.

Actually there is/will be. I fully expect it to be that it was a bug and Nintendo fixed it. Nintendo isn't going to let loopholes like this in their games. Especially not current Nintendo and ESPECIALLY not their flagship $80 cash cow they will be milking for 7-10 years (if the Switch 2 isn't already replaced with Switch 3 by then).

The Switch 2 sold that quickly BECAUSE of Mario Kart World not being shit. There's nothing else to play on it. Nintendo ruining Mario Kart World not even a month after release is going to hurt them. Word of mouth and YouTube/streamers matter a lot these days, and pissing off consumers and the people doing free advertising for you online is going to slow your sales tremendously.

Switch 2 sold quickly because the people claiming they would protest Nintendo and the Switch 2 are the overwhelming minority of people. Mario Kart on console with online will sell regardless of its quality, and after Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, it was guaranteed to hit. Nobody know how good Mario Kart World would or wouldn't be, they just knew it was Mario Kart and that's enough.

Historically, gamers have been dogshit at "protesting" and "boycotting" anything when it comes to games and hardware for games. They will make all kinds of videos, social media posts, etc about how dissatisfied with how things are, but they will be right there on launch day to buy the console or will be the first ones to buy whatever paid DLC becomes available because they can't help themselves. They NEED the video game and Nintendo is just smart enough to know that all the words from YouTubers, journalists and such don't mean anything. That's doubly true for Nintendo youtubers and Nintendo content creators.

You, me and people who come to these imageboards, forums, and all that are the minority. A growingly louder minority, but still a minority. This Mario Kart World online update to make Random force people to do intermissions isn't ruining anything for Nintendo or for Mario Kart World. This is just a mild inconvenience that will blow over literally tomorrow since everyone will continue to play the game anyway and will have no significant impact on player retention or future sales of games and DLC. Everyone is going to keep buying it so Nintendo has no reason to worry about anything.

If the the change isn't reverted I guarantee you there will be a large drop off in active online players. You dumb nigger, 90%+ of players in online matches were choosing randoms because THEY DID NOT WANT TO PLAY THE DOGSHIT INTERMISSIONS. Do you understand, you absolute blithering retard? The actual playerbase of the game did not want this. The vast majority of people do not want these intermissions, and forcing them to play them is in fact ruining the goddamned game.

The people who would actually come back and buy DLC will absolutely not unless this change is reverted. Nintendo got their sales, but they won't be playing the game anymore after Nintendo ruined it, thus reducing the amount of other people who would even buy the game.

Screencap this. They will buy the next DLC and the next ones after that. This update will have no significant effect on Nintendo's bottom line, Mario Kart World current and future sales, and this update "uproar" won't even be a footnote for this game.

The average player is going to quit the game unless they have some local friends to play the fun tracks with. Multiplayer games need to have a good online mode to stay relevant.

I'm sure a handful of casuals will buy the DLC, but the core customer base doesn't want intermissions and won't buy the DLC unless they can play without intermissions.

How much DLC do you think Smash would sell if they forced everyone to play on Time matches? The core Smash playerbase wouldn't buy it because they don't like Time. The casuals don't buy DLC at the same rate as the core audience.

Nintendo quite frankly has a monopoly on the family-friendly genre, and doesn't have to change for anything except maximizing efficiency. Normally a competitor in the same market would change this, but I think in time they will lose their hold. Children are becoming more savage and they've started preferring more mature games at younger ages. They are skipping over bing wahoo shit and they will not have nostalgia for these kiddy games when they are older. The phenomenon of millennials holding up Nintendo is temporary. Mario will eventually become a useless creepy IP when the newest generation grows up, and Nintendo will be forced to make an effort to actually compete again.

Maybe the "core customer base" doesn't want intermissions, but they will buy the DLC regardless of if they can play without them just like casual players will and have in the past. That's where we disagree and I'm very confident that I'm correct. Again, please feel free to screencap all that I'm saying.

You couldn't be further from the truth. Most of the money from MTX and DLC comes from "whales", the people who will drop an exorbitant amount of money on it.

True statement. Since people like Mario Kart World and continue to prove they do, a mild inconvenience like the Random course selector not giving all traditional tracks is not going to be close to enough to preventing what even people upset with the update say is a great game they enjoy playing from buying DLC for it. Mario Kart World will be more than fine.

People did not like the intermissions which is why they all chose Random in online matches. Nintendo wouldn't have patched it out if 90% of the playerbase wasn't deliberately trying to avoid playing the intermissions.

If Nintendo published player counts like Steam Charts you'd see a massive drop off over the past 24 hours.

Most of the fanbase is 20 - 40-ish. Young kids don't care. They're not playing online. Teenagers don't care because "Nintendo isn't mature for mature gamers such as myself". It's the core fanbase who grew up on Nintendo that bought the game day 1 and are pissed about this update.
