What should Nintendo have done differently with the GameCube?

this

don't understand the histroical revisionism zoomers are trying to push about lacking DVD support "not being a big deal", it was a fucking huge mark against it. People literally bought PS2's just to watch DVD's early on

Getting good games would be a good start. Cube had fuck all for releases. Go ahead list the 2003 and 2004 line up. What was their answer for ratchet and halo? Squat. Cuberts missed out on so much that gen. No burnout 3.

Nothing, it's remembered more fondly by pop culture for it's unique design and general aesthetic. Not to mention Melee keeps the GameCube controller relevant across all generations now.
At the time anyone would've preferred a PS2, but in retro reselling GameCubes have gone back up to $100 minimum in most spaces.
A lot of titles have come around too due to the benefit of time.
>People recognize F-Zero GX as the greatest racing game of all time
>Mario Party NETPLAY regularly features all four Mario Party titles
>Melee remains the biggest fighting game in the world bar none
>Pikmin 1 & 2 remain the gold standard of the franchise
>Has classic game collections like Sonic & Megaman, not to mention Sonic Adventures 1 + 2
>Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, not to mention the Ocarina of Time port
>Fun third party titles (Star Wars games, X-Men, Spider-Man, the Hulk, Dragon Ball Z, ect.)
The Shadow of the Colossus remake is the better experience, God of War is better experienced on the PS3 collection, most PS2 games have since come out better elsewhere.
The Nintendo GameCube remains a great console to collect physical copies for.

Being able to use a console as a DVD or Blu-ray player was a big selling point and those standalone devices were like $200 back then.

Sounds like it wasn't just DVDs that killed GC then. GC and Xbox basically had equal numbers in sales

More third-party support comes to mind. So many games that gen were split between Playstation and Xbox and Cube got fuckall out of it.

ps2 was released a year and a half earlier and offered native DVD support when DVD players were still pretty expensive outside of at best the rare black friday doorbuster.

even when it did the xbox required you to buy an additional accessory to use it as a dvd player.

First-mover advantage
