The RE4 village is supposed to make you on edge because they could attack from a variety of angles and you only have so many bullets early on before the pinatas really start. A fight with a Tyrant is supposed to exhaust resources and keep you on the run as you pray it doesn't hit you too many times to bite into your health resources - if you even brought any to the fight because you decided to stock up entirely on ammo and weapons to kill it instead. Ironically a horror game focused on resource management would work with Leon especially well; yeah he's mowing down these zombies like a hot knife through butter but he only has so many bullets. He's a badass and that's what makes it work because it's not a matter if he can kill, it's a matter of how many. That's what makes some parts of 4 and 6 (until you learn how busted melee is in the latter lol) so nervewracking.
Hopefully they let as play as Leon in a dlc or post-game scenario or something once the player is "used" to the horrors to reflect how Grace got brave.

I dont play resi for horror, i play it for the illusion that the game is intense and unforgiving before i eventually figure out a couple hours into my playthrough what the optimised way to use my resources is and then eventually i finish it.
They have their moments of getting startled but these arent very scary games especially on repeat playthroughs.
I didnt play 7 on VR but that game was not scary in the slightest.
Its a fun series though despite vast majority of the games being very mediocre.
Also, rem4ke is better than og gameplay wise and its nu capcoms best game theyve made hands down. Its a very fun game. Og re4 i can play with my eyes closed.

At this point they should just reboot the series. Put an end to the retarded convoluted story with 9 and start over. Make it survival horror again. Bring back the zombies. Ditch RE4/8's pinata enemies that drop items when you kill them. More puzzles, more exploration. Have an optional classic mode for players who want to use ink ribbons to save.

They had the right idea with the RE2 remake. Every game should be like that going forward. Yes, 4 is a great game, but Capcom have learned everything they needed to learn from "actionising" the series. Horror games are popular again and have been for well over a decade now so there's no excuse not to turn RE into a true survival horror experience again.
