is the switch 2 pro controller worth buying?
how long would I have to wait for them to make some cooler special edition?

I like the controller a lot, but if your concern is hall effects or analog triggers, then you'll have to wait for 3rd parties to make something that is compatible with Switch 2, meaning that it can actually wake it up. Current 3rd parties can't wake it up.

I got one for 60 bucks earlier this week (had a discount code from Walmart fucking up my console pre order). It’s a very nice controller, but I’m not really sure it justifies the price tag.

If it was $70 or $75 I could see it but $85 is way too high. If you can somehow get it for cheaper, go for it. It doesn’t do anything that other controllers haven’t before, but it’s absolutely one of the best in terms of build quality and feel

I’d say $70 is reasonable for it assuming it lasts as long as the Switch 1 pro controller does. I’ve had that thing for almost 8 years now and it’s still ticking like new.

If you’re debating it, no. I only really got one because I’m in a financial position where I can waste a bit of money on a nicer, but redundant controller. I could absolutely get away with just using the old one if I wanted to, and I don’t think a lot of people will really notice or care the difference unless they’re autists like me (and I’m assuming you).

If you’re really on the fence I’d say save up and grab it with a game you’re excited for later down the line. The thing that convinced me to get one was playing DK Bananza with it at a demo kiosk while I was shopping at Target the other day.

8bitdo Pro 2 is the best $50 controller you'll ever be graced with. I recently bought another one after I had one that started to drift after 2 full years of heavy use and some occasion drops on the floor but even the drift was tolerable and less horrendous than modern controllers. This shit is practically immortal and 8bitdo recently dropped a firmware update for this and some of the their controllers to be compatible with the Switch 2.

The jack is nice although there is a small audio delay that can be a bit annoying. You don’t notice it in games like MKW but in something like splatoon 3 you do pick up that the sounds don’t exactly sync up with the action on screen, and i’m sure it’s especially annoying in games where that’s crucial like a rhythm game. It’s a nice convenience, but if that’s important you’re better off with one of those usb wireless headphones
Back buttons are a nice convenience though and easy to program/use. Got ‘em mapped to sub/special use in splatoon and makes playing feel a lot better

Guess I’ll add a bit to my review since I remembered how much I like the gyro on this thing.

Tested it with a few shooters like Splatoon and Fortnite and it works really well. I’ve recently been playing shooters with gyro on since I get hand cramps with mice (especially after using one all day for work or whatever); the improvement has been very noticeable.

Hoping steam input gets support for the thing soon so I can get other games hooked up with this thing.

I bought it because I find the joy cons terrible. I was pleasantly surprised as the build quality is great and the buttons are very very good. The battery life is also extremely good. However I have a handful of complaints and I find it overpriced.
1. The grips are tiny which is weird because the face buttons are huge whuch I love because I have big hands.
2. The underside buttons are too out of the way and I would have preferred 4. You can do it with 2 but it is not really enough for shooters.
3 The spring in the left analog is simply too strong. It is tiresome to use It for longer periods of time.
4. Doesn't work on PC.
