Last good game Valve made.
There's probably at least a few kids here that were born after Valve stopped making good games and they have to read retards here still hyping up Half Life 3.
Grim.

I played the dev commentary recently and was astounded at the gobbledygook names and marble-talk coming out of the nodes. It was the beginning of the end.

It didn't. It's one of the best singleplayer game of the last two decades. The trademark "humour" is massively overhyped however, most of GLaDOS comments are reddit tier in this one.

Agreed, Portal 1 was better, but Portal 2 was still really good. Nu-Valve could never. The co-op campaign was indeed kino as well.

Fuck off, I'd put it as one of the best games ever made and I'm a cynical fuck. The only "problem" with it is how bad the humour can be at times, but everything else is fantastic.

I specifically like the maps in Portal 1 better, but Portal 2 is a better game.
It's a hard pick but with the prospects of Source 2 modding seeming to be completely fucked since only fucking WINDOWS users get SDK tools and there aren't any communities to foster the children to make cool shit.
TF2's probably still the best Valve game.
Yes, even with 24/7 mental cases seething impotently that Valve isn't right now letting them take over the game and ruin it by "fixing the balance" (Removing and/or nerfing everything they ever get killed by and being allowed to ban people from playing)

There's something neat about Portal 2's graphics. They're so sharp and realistic, even if they obviously aren't fooling anyone. It's similar to the HL2 effect.
Gotta love the source engine and developers with the knowledge and resources to use it.

Yeah, if TF2 wasn't already a part of the original orange box (or free, since Valve realized that it'd make way more sense to just let everyone in and just let people buy a fancy fedora or something for more backpack space and not re-launch their multiplayer games over and over unless totally necessary [The rightsholding issues with CS:GO and the issues with still working with Source and the middleware owned by hostile third parties]), I'd say it'd be a pretty compelling bundle.
Shame Left 4 Dead 2 got overrun by cancerous autists and the mapping tools are stuck on windows.
Great game, otherwise.

I think it's the colors/lighting. Many rooms come off as sterile and have harsh fluorescent light fixtures, but the actual colors end up being soft, smooth, and inviting.

Probably. Valve have always obsessed about lighting. The 3D assets and environment design are great too.
I was never that obsessed with Portal desu, but I've been playing Death Stranding and the graphics and visual design of it remind me of Portal so much that I actually look back at it with a new appreciation.

I was impressed with them at the time, and looking back they predated the simple, flat design everyone starting adopting around 2015-present by a few years while everyone else was still doing realistic/frutiger aero

No, but why? It's like playing Wii sports with the control pad. The whole game was designed around VR.
