the gimmick was very appealing to normies

It appealled to normies. You could have them in your dorm and women would want to come back just to "play with your wii".

Nintendo knew they couldn't compete with the PS3/360 so they gave us something completely different

Lower price, new revolutionary gimmick, backwards compatability, and most importantly: word of mouth and Wii Sports. Then at that point, all they had to do was release more big name games like Mario Kart, Smash, Mario, etc. Sold itself.

Actually I think it was monster 4x4 world circuit. For some reason none of the wii covers stand out in my memory like n64 or ps2. It was fun not knowing every game in the store and just picking something cool

Shovelware machine for children. Honestly it barely had any decent 1st party games that weren't sabotaged by the motion controls. I regret buying one more than the WiiU. At least it had 720p

There are way, way more people than you think that bought the wii and only played wii sports that came with it and nothing else
It was the perfect game to show off the gimmicks and for all the normies who don't play games to fuck around at a party or something

At least in 2008
The real reason is that people bought it to play Wii sports, Wii fit and just dance. Nothing else

>Massive stride forward in 3D game controls and ergonomics
>Completely abandoned and relegated to VR after 7th gen because of the undercooked nature of the Wiimote, the Wii commercials and phoned-in multiplats on all platforms that targeted the worst controller of the gen (the 360 controller)
I will never not be mad that games have been primarily designed around what is essentially just the Sega Dreamcast controller for the past 20 years.
That said, Nintendo fucked up by not letting people just freely rebind controls in all games, so even FPS games were kneecapped by dumb controls.

The DS required a flash card that you could only buy online. It was difficult for me as a teenager with no credit card. But the Wii only required a copy of Twilight Princess and a $10 SD card.

I like the Wii, it was something different. The bad thing was it popularized motion controls and that other companies though their controllers needed and are randomly still found in games today that don't need it
