If you want really good TPS gameplay you're not gonna look for it in any version of Mass Effect, so whichever version has the best gameplay it's just a bonus really.

They really stripped down the RPG mechanics of 1 by the second game. So that is not an argument. You mean the shooting feels better? maybe. Otherwise it let the whole story down.

true, but overall Mass Effect is a mediocre TPS
anybody playing it for the gameplay over the story is looking in the wrong place, and 3's writing is the weakest in the trilogy because of how stretched the game is.

Like others said yes best third person cover based shooter out of the three games. But fuck everything else. It had moments of greatness storywise if you were into that but they were few and far between.

it just had too much ground to cover in terms of wrapping plot threads up that it was impossible to actually deliver on everything in a satisfying way
it's the fault of ME2 for not serving as a true midpoint in the trilogy, forcing you into a glorified sidequest that really doesn't make sense considering that the Reapers creating themselves from the cells of captured organics is never expanded upon or even visible in ME3.
