I agree with you on the first game, but he complains about the controls in Metroid II and they're pretty tight.
Granted I didn't play the game on original hardware, so maybe the buttons on an ancient gameboy do make the controls worse.

Metroid NES is good but just not amazing as the other big hitters like Zelda and Mario. It was pretty advanced for having one big seamless world that felt good to run in.

Problems are the pass code system and no map. Fix those and the game becomes great.

I understand. I went on a retro binge recently and played a lot of old games from NES onward. Crossing the barrier to early 3D is rough.

I understand his criticisms of Metroid but as someone who has played the first game like 3 times a lot of it comes down to skill issue. The 30 energy respawn sucks but imagine actually dying to Ridley or Kraid.
