Thor has a point actually
Classic WoW never felt or could capture the total zeitgeist of the original WoW.

Once a game is dead, it's dead. Let it die so we can create better things. Sorry nostalgia fags, but you can never replicate that same feeling

And?
Anonymous No.713822632 [Report]
Obviously. There's no time machine to take you back. What made WoW (and other online games) great back then was the novelty of connecting with people through the internet and the mystery of the unknown, when every bit of info about the game wasn't easily googleable.

That said the point for classic fags wasn't to time travel to 2004. Their argument was that modern WoW with it's LFG functionality had basically made the vast world of the game a dungeon lobby. The MM part in MMORPG no longer applied to the game.

I kind of doubt that actually...

When WoW Classic came out, I subbed for 1 month to try it out with a friend and I got that feeling again. I had played modern MMOs and all, but when I played WoW again I ACTUALLY felt that pull that was making me want to stay up all night and play and explore, and talk in the general chat. I was just wondering around, PVPing and I really felt like "damn, I could do this all over again".

I've never played Phantasy Star Online either, but I downloaded the Ephenia private server to try it and, again, I was getting those feelings I thought had died out in me and don't come back.

So I think those feelings really are a part of the game itself, more than doomers like to pretend they are. I think doomers just want an excuse to lay down and do nothing, and want to trick themselves into believing its not their own fault.

Agreed. We should strip the copyright from anything that is no longer fully supported and force the company to release any available source code so that the community can create better things with mods.
No one gives a shit about "that same feeling" other than marketers and normalfags.

its probably different for everyone, because when I tried Classic within a month I felt it was soulcrushing how the present community and mentality of the playerbase devastated whatever nostalgia I may have felt for the game that I nolifed as a late teen

>A straw man fallacy is refuting an argument different from the one actually under discussion, while not recognizing or acknowledging the distinction.

I'm actually in the pro-killing games camp, but "zeitgeist" and "same feeling" and "dead community" is completely unrelated to what "stop killing games" is about, and the constant straw man arguments is hurting the credibility of the actual arguments for killing games.

>so we can create better things
We can’t. You’re never getting back the feeling from MMOs prior to the 2010s. Even 8 year olds these days know about meta and will be watching streamers and youtubers telling them what to do, where to go, etc

Used to watch this guy streaming a bit, but always feel like something is off, like during streams he always comes up with these random stories where people would tried to fuck with him for no reason at all, and he will do some 200 IQ shit and make a heroic underdog comeback. The whole mana gem shit explains a lot of my questions. I'm surprised his channel isn't dead yet.

You probably have a point, because I soloed and didn't interact as much except some on general or in PVP, and I quit the moment my 1 month ran out so I didn't get to have my "wake up" moment

>Never replicate that same feeling
Bullshit. I go on private servers for PSO and the feeling is the same I felt back when I played it in 2001, or even greater. Games deserve to be preserved so that we can properly assess what works and what doesn't. Otherwise poor practices will continue to be done, because everyone decides they need to reinvent the fucking wheel. He has a vested interest in making it so you can't go back, because otherwise he will lose money on his live service bullshit games he wants to push. Thor is part of the problem with the industry and we are tired of it. He is not allowed to be part of the conversation, just as much as you don't let a litter bug dictate why they should be allowed to throw their garbage on the street.

Because they know the true reason in their mind for killing games is
>We are greedy fuckers that want you to move on to the next thing without any recourse. If people win the right to preserve games and we need to give time and effort into making offline playable or remove DRM, or give source code for servers. Then we lose the ability to gouge you pay piggies for more money when we release "next game in series" that feels worse then the last one, because we want "maximum engagement" for as long as possible with drip fed content so that more and more people buy into it in the hopes it will be the "next big thing".
Trend chasing is the poison that is killing the industry, but fuckers like this would rather stab their fellow man in the back, lie, cheat and steal. If he had just come out and said "I don't think consumers are owed anything and we will never let you do what you want with the things we created" I'd at least respect the honesty, but he can't even have the basic decency to not lie to your face every second. Slimy worms only deserve one thing.
