Crash Bandicoot
Is the remake trilogy really worth playing for $4 on Steam? It feels very boring.

Are the originals even worth it though? I don't think the game has aged well. You can't move the camera, controls are loose, levels are as linear as an infinite running mobile game on the iPad, and the designers really expected you to punch every box you see in the map and then circle around to collect every little thing. There is nothing to explore and discover because you can't move in 3D or even move the camera, and it is nothing like Mario 64.

I was about to buy it, but then remembered I'd rather play the originals.

The originals play better than the remake, since their movement is snappier and collision detection is more precise.

$4 isn't bad if you are so lazy that setting up duckstation is too hard or if you are too baka to find ISOs.

As far as remakes go they're not horrible (despite buttmad toys for bob employees trying to get people to hate them as much as Crash 8)
There's some aesthetic downgrades since the devs are actively fighting current engine tech to make them.
I'd mostly recommend skipping relics in Crash 1 and 2 since they weren't designed for them.
Mostly I'd recommend not buying them since you're giving Activision, and, by extension, Microsoft money.

If you'll do all the stuff (gems) then yes, you'll probably get at least 30 hours out of it, more if you plan on doing the relics and don't look up strategies in 3
And what this anon said is correct
>>713843956
Relics in 1 and 2 aren't bad but holy shit was it obvious the levels really weren't designed for them

And just pirate it

Yeah its worth 4 bucks. They never fixed the technical issues with the framerate (45fps when windowed lol).

They see the money Sonic is pulling in with merchandising and they hope they can do that...Without releasing new games.

To clarify on my post
>I'd mostly recommend skipping relics in 1 & 2
Is about if you think the aesthetic downgrades are not a deal breaker for them
Not buying it because it's now owned by both activision and microsoft is a dealbreaker for me, and why I wouldn't buy it for a friend.

You know, if Crash 4 was actually a success (it wasn't), Crash 5 would have just been moved to another developer after Activision fired all the Toys for bob staff.

That said, who should be developing Crash 5 right now? Who at Activision Blizzard Microsoft can do the job?

VV/Beenox.
Their only major stumbles were lazily dropping Relics into crash 1 and 2, and not evaluating that the reserves systems probably shouldn't be in vanilla Online VS.

Nevermind how that wasn't the question, but Sega isn't a developer. And I don't think Sonic Team give two shits about Crash.

Technically Sega itself has developers in addition to the various subsidiaries.

But which Sega developer could handle Crash? Nevermind that the IP won't get sold and you still got the question wrong, name an actual development team.

You can't have a "Crash 5" anymore. The "Crash 4" game has made the brand too toxic.

Do they have to take any story canon so seriously just to make a fun platformer around the classic mechanics? Like I don't think so.
Anonymous No.713847187

I'd say two barely related GBA party games with a 2D platformer stapled onto it barely qualifies as an actual crossover

>Do they have to take any story canon so seriously

Unfortunately, yes. Unless they do a complete reboot, that'd be one of the carryovers from Naughty Dog. Even the Titan games held consistency with the earlier games (sans the personalities).

Ironically, not like Looney Tunes where everything is a stage and the characters are just actors playing their parts.

Anonymous No.713850998
>>713849172
Crash you can pick up and play for 5 mins but the downside is those 5 mins can become extremely autistic especially with how precise some jumps are
Spyro is way easier through the whole game but you should take time exploring a level so you need to be more committed
so up to you
oh and don't play crash 1 first, it sucks ass even in the remaster play 2 then 3, spyro do 1 through 1-3

Based Rovio. Crash 5 gonna have angry fruit crates, time-slow powerups locked behind premium spins, and weekly Nitro challenges with leaderboards full of bots. Honestly? Might be a better direction than whatever the hell that multiverse mask plot was supposed to be. At least the bird noises would drown out the voice acting.

fippy bippy, only upsides to NST are the time trial leaderboards and manual saving in 1 (which really isn't a problem unless you're a huge scrub)

Yes, it's the best way to play three of the greatest platformers of all time. It is an extremely high effort remaster that is clearly from passionate devs that loved and respected the originals.

>60fps or even up to 240fps compared to 30fps with drops of originals
>extremely low input lag
>much faster loading
>time trial relics for all three games
>leaderboards
>can restart time trials right from the menu
>includes a warp at the beginning and end of Crash 1 map to save time going back and forth
>also fixes that the second island goes left instead of right, which just always felt awkward when moving through levels
>added true analog controls for Crash 1
>added a run to Crash 2 (this can be a bit of a double-edged sword as the time trials in 2 are designed around something that was never a part of the original level design, but honestly it works well in most levels and is a nice optional addition)
>box counts for both stages and bonus levels for all three games
>bounce boxes only need 5 bounces instead of 10
>cut levels and even some new ones added (and they're some of the best)
>No annoying Crash 1 save system, makes 100% way less tedious
>improved hitboxes and physics (yes, the pill shape shit and sliding off platforms has been fixed for many years now)
>can play as Coco
>artstyle is hit or miss, but it definitely has its own charm and looks great even if it lacks some of the edge of the originals.

I would still recommend playing the originals too though as they are very charming and still hold up great today.

Theres nobody around to make competent AAA games for longstanding franchises. I would say let Crash die or hope some level of talent or understanding returns to the brand but thats a false hope. 4 was fucked the moment they attached TFB to it.
