I do agree that the respawning enemies get out of control, but thats a pet peeve of mine in all games and some people don't seem to mind. It's why I hate Resident Evil Outbreak File 2 but love Outbreak 1.

it was bullshit to not give you a real ending for beating the game on normal. game is too hard and long to give you a splashscreen telling you to git gud and hard has blatant bullshit balancing in certain parts.

Obnoxious level design, unbalanced difficulty settings (normal is a cakewalk, hard is a frustrating mess), bosses and even popcorn enemies are massive bullet sponges, nauseating top-down stages, excessive gimmicks, and somehow the weapon swap bug was never caught in testing. One of the few 2D Contras that missed the mark.
It's the worst Contra game in the mainline series by far

Contra is one of those "you had to be there, otherwise it sucks ass" kind of games. When people were poor, games last for 15mins, so devs made games hard af, with trial and error stuff and often even with secrets that you only knew if you bought the magazine.

Eh, it's really not that great compared to Contra and Super C.
I'd also say it gets mogged by some of the run and gun games on Genesis, like Gunstar Heroes.
