The fundamental problem with gacha is that if you don't start within the first week or two, you'll always be behind and possibly even miss some kind of exclusive cosmetic.

The best practice is really to see what upcoming gachas interest you and start there because chances are you'll probably just drop the gacha you came into late for a newer one anyways.
