I know this game was by just one guy and that's really impressive, but it kinda annoys me when people try to create a RPG inspired by classic (J)RPGs but their only "innovation" is to remove the traditional leveling system (as in gainning XP after battles and getting stronger as you level up).
I think only SaGa has managed to create something interesting without a traditional - somewhat grindy - formula for a JRPG, the rest tried and mostly fail.
Fantasian, to me, felt like the best of both worlds. If you get to a certain level and that's the recommended level in the area, you won't be getting much XP because you're not supposed to steamroll a boss, you need to learn how to defeat it.
Chained Echoes is a looker, it looks like an old-school SNES JRPG, but i think it was too ambitious. Also, i feel like lack of voice-acting (again, i understand it was just one guy) makes it hard for me to care about the story, i want to hear people talking if i'm gonna be paying attention. At least old-school JRPGs didn't care too much about the story, it was just 4 niggas in a row in a journey to kill god.
