It's actually surprising to see how much improvement there is across all gameplay aspects. Major critiques of the first game are addressed (Too much menu use, poorly paced item progression, slow beginning). The overall map design is also much more varied. In DS1 you would maybe come across 2-3 different "biomes" during a delivery, in DS2, you can easily come across 5+ biomes, not including the prevalent bandit camps and distint BT areas.

The biggest additions are
- day/night cycle
- the ability to remove your backpack which increases Sam's movelist and significantly increases his mobility.
- the music player

It's good, to the point where people argue that they miss the vibe of the first game as critique.
