The presentation at the start of the game so far is not as good as 1. There is overall something wrong with the game and I cant put my finger on it

Its probably the lighter tone you don't like, all the referencial comedy and inside jokes are a big turn off for fallout 1 fans

I heard about the references, theyre honestly not that bad. My problem is with how the game itself is constructed. Something about the gameplay is off even though its the same as 1. Maybe its the levels

I played this a little under a year ago, hadn’t played FO1. Played it to the very end and felt vindicated in hating the game. You just kind of aimlessly wander around running into people who are either simply existing or making some anachronistic reddit joke. It actually reminds me of playing a fan game in that respect, where somebody has access to the assets and stuff but they don’t know how to write and fill in the gaps with their terrible humor. I am seriously just realizing it as I write this, it feels 100% like playing some dude’s South Park RPG fan game or a custom campaign in Starcraft. Anyway by the end of the game I knew I had formed zero attachment to any particular person, place or quest. It’s all very forgettable, and at many times really fucking stupid when it comes to the real world references disguised as jokes.

you should try FO1 and then let me know your thoughts. You kinda wander around in that game too but it makes more sense

OP you like visual novels, don't you?

FO1 has next to no RPG mechanics. It's a very pretty game and sets things into motion, but that's all it has.

t. modder of Fallout 1

Charisma is a dump stat and is basically never used except for one or two situations.

FO2 is a game with depths you can only appreciate when you replay it and notice tons of things that you never saw on your first.

>>713877342
All of the talking heads in FO1 are half baked compared to Myron in FO2.

Only New Reno/San Francisco are two decent quest hubs, rest either have bite sized objectives or depend on other locations to get get going (Redding)
Never particularly liked F2 itself, every experience felt disjointed and stitched together
mmmost people just play the russian mods like Sonora

Maybe it really is in how the game is constructed.

FO1: As soon as you start the game you have a direction, you're immediately sent to a vault, along the way you get to your first town and level up a bit if you want (doing sidequests) or you can simply get rope and go to the vault. There's also a sense of urgency.

FO2: you're given directions but the urgency isn't there, and there are some clashes between the sprites reused from FO1, and the ones made for FO2.

There are four steps up in quality.
Getting out of Temple of Trials. It's outrageously awful.
Getting out of Arroyo. The place is stale. At this time your chance to like Fallout 2 is great.
Reaching Den. First time the game has some real consistent excitement. If you don't like this place, there's a 40% chance you won't like Fallout 2. At least try to get here before being discouraged.
Reaching NR. If you don't like this place it's official, that you will never like Fallout 2. Getting here is three times as large a commitment as getting to Den.
