>>713881935 (OP)No, unlike Final Fantasy, Square always respected this series.
Even when they censored the 3 remake, the director publicly said that the censorship was idiotic and that it came from above. So at least they were frank about the bullshit that they had to do. This also means that everything else was respected.
This is a far cry from the Final Fantasy 7 remake which shits all over the original, removes all subtlety and lets Nomura's unhinged cringe run wild.
How wonderful they did DQ 8 and how well they remade 5 for the PS2 (even when it had less budget) speaks volumes of how they treat the source material.
8 serves as a perfect sequel to old 2D jrpgs that many other companies felt were "too outdated" so they added shitty battle systems and hallway design with minigames. So ironically the conservative nature of 8 made it pass the test of time.
Many other gimmicky sequels like Breath Of Fire 2, Wild Arms 3+, Grandia 3+, and others fell to obscurity while the tried and true formula of DQ games still makes them relevant.
One other JRPG series managed to do that as well.
The SMT games like 3,4 and 5 show that the formula they had during the snes and ps1 was timeless. They managed to make sequels that do have some qol and streamling qualities but not to the cost to the soul of the series.
Even the Persona games stayed true to the core gameplay of smt so no matter of you like or dislike them, those games still let SMT fans enjoy the core gameplay of the maninline franchise, as you still fuse demons, and play based on tactics rather than grinding.
For some reason the suits in square dare not to fuck with DQ and for some reason they still allocate some resources for SaGa chads as well.
