make a launcher that isn't even worse and more resource hungry than steam. seriously, fuck both frontends in the current year.

Too incompetent, and the one's that aren't incompetent are too greedy. Steams no perfect platform, but it is honestly sad it's still in it's own tier. Only GOG is anything I'd consider a valid alt and that's just a better than mediocre platform, which means little when the bar standards are wtv shit EA is doing and Rockstar Launcher

He would need to make epic better than steam in every way, while ALSO somehow organizing some kind of system that lets you activate on epic any games you already own on steam.

It's simple network effects. If I already have a library of hundreds of games on steam, I'm going to want to keep purchasing on steam so everything is together in the same library. I don't want to fuck around with multiple different launchers for this and that

1. Never using money to force exclusiveness on PC, porting a console war on a PC space.
2. Using money to actually improve the store.
3. Giving the costumers the property of the goods, and not just the license of use.
4. Making good sales in general, instead of giving for free mostly unimportant games.

Try to be attractive to consumers, not developers
I dont care how good a deal game devs are getting when the platform is just objectively worse than steam

provide an actual offline or invisible mode to their friendslist. these retards do everything in their power to make you play with other people when the majority of steam's success is owed to introverted people.

The most realistic scenario is to invent a time machine, travel to the past and launch a functional game store before Gaben.

It's probably not possible alone to overtake them. They're too ingrained in the PC market with its' customers incentived to keep using their service which feedback loops to game makers wanting to have their games on the platform. Steam as a system would have to collaspe or make a massive fuck up to lose now. It's more of being in a position to steal the spotlight if/when that day comes.

Here are some first steps:
1. Stop sending shills to spam blatantly copy-pasted threads every time there's a half-decent giveaway.
2. Stop sending shills to tell me about how much money publishers save. I'm not a publisher, so I don't give a fuck unless those savings are passed on to me.
3. Stop sending shills to complain about Steam's monopoly while simultaneously gloating about the supposedly impending downfall of Steam. Either competition is good or it's not. If you're saying Gabe is evil for being in exactly the position you aim to be in, then I have no reason to accept your moral arguments.
Nothing has made me less willing to use EGS than the marketing threads Tim sponsors on this board.

>How can he realistically defeat Steam?

It's too late, he had the entire audience of western children and blew it. Steam got entrenched by becoming the millennials digital library and social interaction service when no one else was offering a single platform that had everything and they did it with the audience from HL2 and its mods.

Timmy could've brainwashed gen z, but chose to sperg out instead and not develop any sort of services outside of games and now gen alpha has moved on to roblox. His brute force method of trying to grab steams users is never going to work, gotta get them when they're young.

Credit card companies decide what you do with your store and they are not going to start making different decisions, just because the store is called Epic instead of Steam.

should have invested all that money spent on exclusives elsewhere
like, i dunno, developing an actual platform for games, implementing an input layer supporting nearly every controller out there, integrating mod support, this kind of shit

They could start by not bribing publishers and devs in the hopes it'll drag people to their store. Their userbase keeps "going up" yet revenues are flat. A lot of people only use his store for the free games.

Right now I don't think he can. Fortnite isn't as big as it was, so leveraging that with something like crossover deals isn't nearly as effective. A lot of his potential customer base still has a negative impression of Epic thanks to the exclusivity deals in the early days. Giving away free games was a great way to get people in the door, but they did it before meaningly improving the launcher, so their impression of the store wasnt exactly great, even if that does get offset a bit by the positive experience of getting free games. Without Steam making some kind of massive unforced error, I don't see how Epic makes up the ground anytime soon

Fags used to defend Timmy by saying competition is healthy, but EGS didn't threaten Steam with a single good feature since their whole strategy was to appeal to devs and hope the customers would be forced to follow. So really nothing good came out of EGS.
