They already did stupid shit to the U.C timeline with Origin and Unicorn which shit on the canon, so this is par for the course for nu-UC.
They used to do kino shit like War In The Pocket and the 8th MS team. Now those were good prequels.
Also your image doesn't follow because GQ is neither a sequel nor canon.
It set in an alternative universe UC so it has fuck all to do with an official cano sequel.

The one on the right sucks dick, the mechs are ugly 3D monstrosities, the clan battles are a total meme and shit on the war time atmosphere of the UC. The characters from UC do nothing, the newtype shit happens too fast without any buildup(It took Amuro and the viewers 20+ episodes to realise that Newtypes were real and that he was one). So if this series is set around the one year war, Newtypes would be EXTREMELY rare unlike in this show where every other chump is a Newtype.

We got great 2D animation and guerilla battles in a jungle.
That was enough for what it was, it didn't try to be some grand narrative, not did it only lean into UC to be recognised.
It was legit just a story about a guerilla troop during the one year war.
