There isn't actually a world of difference between characters like Claire and Jill, and modern western slop ones like Aloy. They're all girlbosses with an attitude, and are shown to be just as competent as their male counterparts when it comes to fighting monstrous abominations with a heavy arsenal of weapons. Characters like Lara and Samus aren't subservient, but are strong in more acceptable circumstances. Lara usually relies on stealth and acrobatics, Sam's has incredibly advanced tech; I'm OK with this, and I want to fuck them.

They couldn't, though. In RE1, the Chris route is harder despite him being stronger and more durable, because the devs knew playing Chris in the Jill route would be a walk in the park.
Jill constantly needs the help of men (Barry, Chris) in order to do things. Same happens for Claire, specially in Code Veronica.
