For me it was scholar's shield/shield grease
I don't mind the input for steel guard, but the stamina cost blows and if you don't dodge backwards (often out of shieldpoke or guard counter range) you risk attacks hitting past your shield.

can you play nighreign solo or does it make little sense?

Beat the game solo within the first week and grew bored. Not enough variety to runs to keep it interesting. Wish they'd just let B team make another DS2 already.

I think so. I just started today and have only played solo so far. I beat the first Day3 boss the second time I faced him. I've only tried the starting character, Ironeye, and Raider so far. I like Raider the best, it seems well suited for solo play. I'll try the other character if/when I get bored of Raider.

There's a bit of a learning curve, but it's fine with any character once you know the ropes. Personal preferences aside, Wylder's the easiest due to unmatched mobility, good survivability, well-rounded stats for flexibility with drops, and a nuke of an ult.

They are all fine for solo.
The only ones that really have any hiccups are

As you need to take notably different routing priorities

As its surprisingly , easy to get overwhelmed and be unable to cast spells in time.
So you need to change how you approach engagements.

Keeping your summons alive is much more important and so is FP management.
But if you can do that they can be one of the stronger solos.

But other than that there's no real issue.
Wylder and Duchess are perfectly fine for solo.
Executor is arguably better solo than in multiplayer as you'll get all the aggro making it easier to reflect and stagger.

I had a game once where I played Rev and my team just refused to visit a church. I eventually broke off to solo one and grab a usable seal, they died doing whatever they were doing (but not before rage spamming the ping) and rage quit.

I 100%ed the game pretty much. Beat the tutorial boss, got all the achievements, and did all the remembrances. It pisses me off how many shitters are in this game but it was to be expected since most people cheesed their way through Elden Ring and didn't beat the game. I hate every second of dilly dally that noobs do. I do my best to carry their asses, but they keep downing themselves in the final boss always.

I'd be more inclined to agree if it was just ironeye but raider not really.
Wyvern does decent damage while having vastly better mobility, letting you cover a lot more of the map, ontop of his nuke ult and cheat death passive (which is worth a lot more in solo).

Executor simplifies routing as you can very easily just get away with just aiming for levels + flasks, even then flask aren't as essential as you can get healing from both skill and art.
His art also means you can go very deep into the rain without issue.

Ironeye only has mobility and a useful ult. Recluse, Duchess, and Revenant (all using magic staves not incants lol) severely out damage an ironeye. Like it isn't even close how much damage magic users can pump out compared to melee let alone ironeye's cucked ranged phys damage.

This game really needs a damage calc to dispel the myth of ironeye retards. He's king of support but you really need anyone else but guardian to output real damage.

My point is more so that his art gives him a full heal and moves very quickly.
So you can realistically stay and fight enemies in the rain much longer than other classes, which is good for solo's where you tend to clear much less of the map to begin with.

Not that you could dive into the rain for a prolonged time without issue.

Raider's fully brain-off if you roll paired colossals, but many of my Raider solos end up with one greataxe drop and a bunch of dex weapons, and life sucks at that point. When set up his merits are still mostly in poise and stance breaking.
Wylder's mobility alone is a godsend solo, you can dick around inefficiently and still potentially hit lv15 before the night 2 circle starts closing. He can also get to churches pretty much anywhere in the night 2 rain.

I'm mostly inclined to agree with your list, though imo Revenant isn't as punishing as people make her out to be. "Punishing" as in, one of the squishiest characters but without the generous iframes or defensive mechanics the others have. She has summons to take aggro and they're great when they can do so without dying instantly, but she's inherently the riskiest solo character during Nightlord fights where they die quickly, sometimes as collateral. Even with her immortality ult I'd rather have Duchess (ensures aggro drops for the duration, gets to restage her burst window) or Recluse (increased damage, can be reckless with the heals and potential max HP+ relic) in that situation.

Basically does what birdfags pretend they do by actually being a good tank (when he has aggro, can go into Sekiro mode to inflict heavy stance damage and mitigate damage to himself, when he doesn't have aggro he can just switch to shitting out massive damage because S in Dex and Arcane is just as broken here as it was in base Elden Ring).
