I think about the goal instead of the task itself. I think about how much I want to lose weight, and I accept that working out and eating less are the only ways I'll be able to achieve that. Focusing on my goal is a much better motivator than thinking about the task.

For me the catalyst was health issues. I was in my mid twenties and started feeling chest pains. It got to the point where I saw a doctor and he told me that I was guaranteed to have a heart attack by the time I hit 30 if I didn't start moving my body.
I started small, only 5 minutes every day of pushups. That grew into 10 minutes of alternating pushups and stomach crunches, which in time grew into 25 minutes of the same + free weights etc etc etc. The takeaway from this is that I had no idea what I was doing, but I learned gradually by just doing it.
Set small reachable goals that you make sure to do every day, and gradually they will turn into a routine that feels natural.

that's the closest i can describe the runners (for me cycling) high when you've been biking really hard for a very long time and your breath slows down into very deep long breaths and you just feel sort of rabid
if you ever got extremely into the zone in a tense multiplayer game that can come somewhat close too but obviously not without the strong physical aspect to it
