After playing this again, World is sadly better (in terms of gameplay)
Obviously the structure of the online/GP modes in 8DX is better but the gameplay's just so much smoother in World

World and 8 have nothing on wii though, this is easily the best mario kart and there's no real competition

That's correct. 8 removed Wii's Lakitu boosts, reduced hit reactions (hitting walls or especially traffic), removed wheelies, standing turbos, jump drifts, made item boxes respawn instantly so you can no longer tactically steal them, added a bunch of invisible walls to prevent shortcuts, removed items that require skill like the cloud or the tanuki tail, generally made drifting even easier and tracks wider (all those lazy phone tracks), etc.

And just btw. but when people say they love 8 they mean 8 Deluxe which fixed a lot of 8's issues. Wii never got a Deluxe version

Wii pretty much just perfected the formula, gave us fun bikes, a near perfect track selection (new and retro) and the best roster yet). And it didn't force us to play shitty phone tracks

i think it also removed the fake item box for some stupid reason. these are the kinda items you want in mario kart because there is some kind of strategy involved

You didn't have to play World to find that out, 8 was trash even when it came out.

A Mario Kart where bananas spin around you like shells isn't a real Mario Kart.

crazy how a game can be so soulless and soulful at the same time

Sometimes things that are soulless at the time (the Wii's menus) can become soulful later (when the particular corporate artstyle they used goes out of use more generally)

I actually think 7 did that. Not sure why it gets so much flak.

All Mario Kart games are casual. Getting punished for doing well is the opposite of skill.

It's not slower than other MKs and it has some of the windiest tracks with shortcuts and obstacles everywhere. Going back to 8 players probably helped because Nintendo seems to think they have to make tracks wider than a football field when there are more than 8.

MK8's anti-gravity gimmick is retarded and does nothing but render all verticality in track design pointless. MK needs more vertical tracks and upward mountain trails

It just felt like a graphicsfag game to me and my friend so we dropped it pretty early on

Name another mario kart or console where you could get literally everyone to enjoy themselves, literal 80 year old dementia patients could play this and it wouldn't take away from the enjoyment from some of the more hardcore players
